I woke with a start, my heart racing. It took me a few moments to realize that I was safely sandwiched between my mates. Diesel and Jaydan stirred simultaneously, and both opened their eyes. I had been with them for almost 3 months and their gray and silver eyes still fascinated me.
"Princess, what's wrong?" Jay asked quietly, interrupting my thoughts.
"You've been having nightmares for the last few days. It's time you told us what's going on in that pretty head of yours," Diesel said as he pushed my hair back from my face.
I sighed. I knew that I would have to have this conversation whether I wanted to or not. I sat up, and both of them followed. I motioned for them to sit in front of me while I rested against the headboard of the bed. "First, you both have to promise that you're not going to go all raging jealous of Alpha. Otherwise, I won't tell you anything," I began. There was a knock on the bedroom door, and before I could tell whoever it was to go away, it swung open to reveal the rest of my pack-within-a-pack. I should have known that I would not have been able to keep this a secret for long. Once they made themselves comfortable, I took a deep breath. "Jay. Dies. You have to promise that you're not going to go all raging jealous Alpha," I repeated. They both nodded. "No, I want your words. Promise me." They both promised, although Jay already looked like he was about to murder someone. "So for the last few nights, I've dreamt of a silver wolf, not gray and not white, but metallic silver." A low growl comes from Diesel, but I shoot a warning look, and he stops. "This wolf is massive. Bigger than either Diesel or Jaydan. Probably the biggest wolf ever. After a moment, he shifts back into his human form. And his human form is taller than either of you," I said while looking at my mates, "although there doesn't seem to be much muscle on him. He seems like he's not much more than a stick. But I get the impression that his looks are deceiving. He's likely a lot stronger than he's given credit for. Anyways, once he shifts back into his human, there's blood all over him, like he's been in a battle or something. A young girl runs up to him, and I could see she's been crying. He holds her in one hand, and in the other he's holding a sword. On the hand holding the sword, there's a mark. I can't see what it is, but I know it's important. I would almost say the sword was Excalibur. But they're not mates, the man and the girl. They're something else. Siblings maybe. Just before I wake up, he looks right at me. His brown eyes seem so lost, like he's losing hope. Just as a single tear runs down his cheek, I hear what sounds to be an explosion. And then I wake up. I've had the exact same dream the last four nights."
Nikki, Talia, Justin, Sam, and Dash had varying degrees of surprise on their faces. Jaydan and Diesel looked murderous at the thought that I was dreaming of another guy, and it was only the fact that I was holding their hands that kept them from trashing our room. Aziel was the only one who looked thoughtful.
"This is not a normal dream, my Queen. I believe you have seen a tiny glimpse of the future. This could be another of your powers awakening. There are several vampire libraries that remain neutral. I vaguely remember reading about a silver wolf. If you can give me three days, I should have an answer." With that, he stands up and leaves the room.
"I hate it when he does crap like that," Sam whines. The rest of us nod.
"Dies. Jay. I want you to know..."
"Tessa. We love you. There's no denying that. Yeah, sure, we were maybe..." Jaydan punched Diesel with his elbow. "Ok, we were extremely jealous that you would be dreaming of someone else. But Aziel has a point. This is probably another of your powers. I tell you what, I know someone who is a really good artist. I'll give her a call. When she gets here, you can tell her what your mystery wolf looks like, and she can sketch him. Maybe if you can concentrate on the mark you saw, you can describe that as well. It will give an idea of who we're looking for," Diesel said while looking directly into my eyes, so I would know he was being sincere.
"It's been three days. Where the hell is he?" I exclaimed as I paced back and forth in my office. One of the flower vases exploded near me. Nikki sighed as she muttered a spell to repair it.
"Tessa! If you don't stop, I swear to the moon goddess that I will conjure a rope and tie your ass down!" Nikki yelled as she finished putting the vase back together. Jaydan and Justin nodded in agreement while Sam, Diesel, Talia, and Dash giggled.
The door opened just as I launched a book at her head, and Aziel swooped in and caught it before it could make contact. "My Queen. Really?" All seven of the others broke down in fits of giggles, and even Aziel smiled. "I take it I was missed?" He asked just as I hugged him tight. "Alpha, you said that you had someone who could sketch the man from Tessa's dreams?" Diesel nodded. His friend, Lisa, had arrived last night. "I think it would be easier if she were here while I tell you what I found out. It may even spark a memory of some kind in Tessa." A few minutes later, and we had congregated in the newly remodeled Alpha office. It had much more room to be able to accommodate the two Alphas and the rest of our mini-pack. I made sure everyone was comfortable and settled before Aziel began telling us what he found out.
"Long ago, the Moon Goddess had a daughter. Her name was Lunaria. By the time Lunaria was born, Selene had created the Praestes, an order of bodyguards or protectors. After Lunaria was born, Selene assigned her chief Praestes, Aegeus, to be protector of Lunaria. He became something like a father figure or older brother to the young demi-goddess. They were always together. And then, everything changed. Lunaria had seen the werewolves and their mates, and she wanted what they had. She longed for someone to love her the way the wolves loved each other. She knew that she would never be able to find her own mate with Aegeus always around. So she tricked him, and slipped away from the Moon Palace without being noticed. Aegeus found out almost immediately after she left and went to track her down. But she was ambushed by Zurina and killed. Selene was furious, and in her fury, she cursed Aegeus that he would wander the world, mateless and alone. If Lunaria died before finding her mate, rejected her mate, was rejected by her mate, or was denied her "happy ever after", Aegeus would die and be reincarnated and begin the cycle again. This cycle would keep repeating and Lunaria found her mate and achieved her happy ending. Once Lunaria found her mate, then and only then would Aegeus's reincarnation find his mate and the cycle finally be completed."
While Aziel was talking, I could see him, Aegeus. He stood tall and proud, dirty blonde hair curled around his face, and a body made of muscle. He was like the image of Adonis. His brown eyes twinkled. On his right hand was a mark, like a chrysanthemum with vines that flowed around his wrist. The flower was a deep purple with blue and pink tones swirled throughout. As I watched him, his image shifted. I watched in fascination as I saw over twenty men come and go; the only thing they had in common with Aegeus were the eyes. They were always the same brown eyes. And finally, I could see him, the man from my dreams. I heard a girl's voice call out "Jaxton" before the images faded. I shook my head to clear it of the last vestiges of the images while the rest of the room looked at me in shock.
"Please tell me, you all saw that?" Talia breathed. Everyone, except Lisa, nodded. I noticed Lisa was busy sketching, her hands flying across her tablet. We waited with baited breath while Lisa finished the drawing. When she turned the tablet to me, everyone gasped. It was him, the man from my dreams.
"Well, we at least have a name. Jaxton. And we know what he looks like. That is where we can begin our search," Aziel said after the shock wore off.
"But what do Aegeus and Jaxton have to do with the coming war?" I mused. No one had an answer. I felt a migraine coming and leaned into Diesel and Jaydan. They recognized the signs and dismissed everyone. Diesel carried back up to our room. Jaydan pulled the curtains so the room was dark. They both kissed my forehead before they left the room. As I felt myself drift off, I kept repeating their names so that I wouldn't forget. Aegeus and Jaxton.
