Hunters

Fang.   This is the new name given to the Hound pack. With the coming of Christina Wolff, it is only natural that the name of the pack changes as well. There is little to no opposition to this. After all, it isn’t only the name of the pack that has changed. A lot of major changes came as well.   The news of Gerald Hound being the personal bodyguard of Christina spread quickly. The pack isn’t that big so this doesn’t come as a surprise. Gerald’s son is deeply against this but, with his own father telling him to know his place, the teen didn’t act up anymore. Then there are the changes implemented by Christina. As soon as the next day came, the Hunter pack has been busy following orders. There are those who plowed more land while others crafted the objects which were ordered of them. The weavers also have their hands full and, so does the collectors of the tribe. All the work has been evenly distributed. The pack does not remember the last time that they have been this busy. In fact, they have never been this busy at all. And without anyone seeing the long term results that Christina envisions, they simply view the work as more burden. Nevertheless, they continued following the orders of their alpha. Meanwhile. Christina herself decided go out and do some stretching. She joined a group of werewolves assigned to hunt that day. There are two reasons for this. The first is because she wants to memorize the whole of the area that belongs to the pack. The second is because she wants to closely observe and monitor how the werewolves of the pack hunts.   “Alpha, are you sure that you are fine with the current line-up of hunters? They aren’t the best of the pack.” Alfred said.   This elder is worried about Christina. For safety reasons of course. Nobody wants to feel the same kind of animosity and bloodlust which their Alpha has made them go through to before. That’s why he’s ensuring that everything will always happen at Christina’s best interest. Meanwhile, Christina is simply preparing herself. Taking a quiver full of arrows and a bow as her weapon. She has the look of a human hunter to her. Not preferring the usual fighting style of werewolves which makes use of the wolf form to hunt.   “But they’re still hunters right?” Christina tied her hair to a pony. “Well…yes but…” “It’s fine Alfred.” Christina stretched her body. “All I need is a bit of information on how your pack hunts. Whether it’s the best or the worst hunters that you give me, the information I need will still be provided.”   “Understood alpha.” Alfred replied. Surrendering to Christina’s will as he lead her to where the hunters are.   There are ten of them in total excluding Christina. All of them are male werewolves which the alpha disliked. Nevertheless, she remained silent for the moment. Allowing the group to go through with their traditions. The werewolves proceeded to the part of the forest owned by the pack. As the elders said, there is only a designated area which the Hound pack owns. Hunting and taking resources outside this range is considered stealing.   The group continued moving through the forest. Christina noticed every slight movement that they made until; they finally reached their destination. They hid behind a group of trees and, directly in front of them is their target for that day. Long-horned boars. These creatures are known for their tackling strength which can even crush a boulder.  Adding to the threat is the sharpness of their horns. The shape and size can be comparable to the horns of the mountain rams of earth. But the major difference is the power that comes with this part. The horns contain a large deposit of the creature’s mana. This creates a defensive barrier for the boars whenever they charge. Preventing them from getting hit while they recklessly assault their target. These factors are what makes the creatures dangerous. But the werewolves aren’t new to danger. They know how to handle most of the monsters that live within the forest. And the long-horned boars are just the same.   “Alpha, aren’t you going to give us any orders?” The leader of the group asked. Evidently with nervousness in his tone of voice.   “Orders? There’s no reason to do that. I’m sure that you are all proficient in doing this already.” Christina crossed her arms below her chest. “Knock yourselves out, I’m only here to observe.”   “Understood alpha. We’ll be on our way then.”   The hunters nodded to each other and, ran out of hiding. As they did, they slowly shifted to their wolf form. All of them are at least six feet in height. Making them stand almost as big as they are on their base form.   The boars recognized the presence of their unwanted visitors but it’s too late for them. They aren’t able to react on time. The speed of the werewolves are far superior to their own. Preventing any form of escape as they have been surrounded by their predators. “Not bad.” Christina commented – carefully watching everything unfold.   With the boars surrounded, it is only a matter of time before they fall victim to the werewolves. However, something unexpected suddenly occurred. The boars began running around in circles. Building up momentum while also activating the barrier that comes from this movement. The wolves tried attacking them. Using their razor-sharp claws to try and get past the barrier of the beasts. This worked like a charm. Shattering the barriers right away but, this also bore problems for the wolves. Their attacks ended with just breaking the barrier. There isn’t enough momentum left for their claws to reach the boars. This gave the wild monsters a chance for a counter-attack. With the boars suddenly moving into a tackling motion. Both of these hitting a target each.   The blow isn’t strong enough to kill the wolves but, it is strong enough to allow the creatures to escape. And they did just this. The boars ran for their lives while the able werewolves chased them down. Meanwhile, the two injured werewolves are attended to by Christina. “Don’t bother. Getting hit by a horned boar is no joke. You’re lucky that you’re still in one piece.” The alpha commented as she watched the werewolves try their best to follow the targets.   With the instruction of the alpha, the two werewolves reverted to their base form. They both have a defeated look on their faces. Unable to gaze at their alpha.   “I’m not gonna say anything right now. Both of you just stay here and rest.” Christina said.   “We were just caught off guard alpha. Those boars were just lucky.” “Luck? You see, the one thing I can’t tolerate are those who think that luck is a tolerable excuse for failure.” Christina lectured. “Those are creatures that rely on instinct to survive. You, on the other hand, have brains you could’ve used to easily capture the boars. But you chose to rely on your raw strength, acting like savages that are deprived of intellect.” The two werewolves didn’t have anything to reply. They remained quiet, knowing that what their alpha said is true. “The two of you should reflect on your actions. Think about it while you recover. Next time I see you lose, I don’t want you making a pathetic excuse like this.” “Yes alpha.” One werewolf said.   “Forgive us.” The second added. “I’ll be following the others. I’m sure that they won’t repeat the same mistake but it’s better that I see to it myself.” Christina activated a spell over her body. Writing the symbols in thin air as thin streaks of lightning covered her. “Am I understood?” She asked in confirmation to the two werewolves who simply nodded in reply. “Good. I’ll be off then.”   Christina bolted out of sight. She ran at almost the same speed as Gerald. But the difference is that she can freely control her motion, allowing her to dodge trees and other obstacles along the way. This allowed her to quickly catch up to the werewolves who have gone first. However, the sight she saw is completely different from what she expected. The two boars have been killed, there’s no doubt about this. The bodies of the monsters lay on the ground and there are no signs of movement from them. But Christina’s eyes aren’t focused on the prey nor on the members of her pack. No. Her eyes are on the twenty werewolves who surrounded them. “This is Canine territory that you’re hunting on Hounds. You better back away now.” One of the outsider wolves said. Clearly the leader of the group as he exudes a dominating presence.   Christina simply watched from the sidelines for the moment. She wants to learn more about the things that these wolves would talk about. Besides, the members of Fang are still safe at the moment. “Canine territory? We killed those boars on our border. They just tumbled outside it by just an inch but that doesn’t make them yours.” A hunter from Christina’s side defended. “Exactly. That still means that its ours.” The leader of the opposing group argued. “And why the hell are you even talking back to me huh? Can’t you read the situation that you’re in?” The opposing werewolves slowly closed in. All of them are ready to fight at any moment. Christina could clearly feel their intent. They don’t plan on backing down and would be more than willing to start a fight right there and then. “Boys.” She said in a mocking tone as she continued to watch.   “It’s our kill Kyle. I’m sure that your alpha would be disappointed in you if you took prey that you didn’t hunt yourself.” The wolf named Kyle vanished in that instant. Christina is the only one who was able to follow his movement. Watching as the human form of this werewolf jump up and, without any hesitation, delivered a kick right at the skull of the wolf from Christina’s faction.   This immediately slammed the werewolf to the ground. Leaving the rest of the hunters from Christina’s pack in confusion. All of them unable to do anything as Kyle stepped on the head of their ally. “You think you can just speak of our Alpha without any consequence? Are you that stupid now? In case you forgot, our pack is stronger than yours. Our leader outclasses that poor excuse for an alpha that you have. And if it doesn’t register to that thick skull of yours…” Kyle transformed his left hand into a wolven paw. With the claws extended out – evidently brought to kill. “…then let me do it for you.” Kyle slashed at the werewolf’s neck. He knew that the attack would connect. There isn’t anyone who could go against him at that moment. That is why, there is a visible shock on his expression as his claws are stopped by a wooden stick. “Who are you?” He asked. “Who am I?” Christina replied in an amused tone. “I’m the woman who’s going to dominate you.”
