The coolness of the coming morning was not enough to swerve my mind off its course. Carter was trailing behind me, saying my name as loudly as he could without disturbing the sleeping town. I had placed the letter in the pocket of my dress. My skull ached as I dug deeper and deeper, fighting to remember the gown that I had worn the day I had snuck into the mail room. How could I be so stupid? The people of Crosston were beginning to wake as we continued through the streets. Shopkeepers yawned and flipped over their handmade signs on the door, revealing to the world that they were now open. My eyes focused on each person wandering down the road. Finally my internal screams were too much. I took off at a sprint, and Carter's voice wailed behind me, no longer in any attempt to keep quiet. M
