Cal and I got comfortable on the double bed as we video-called Ronnie. We were eager to talk to her about how her coffee date had gone with our mother. Eventually, Ronnie answered.
“Video call, love,” I said as I stared at the screen. All we could see was darkness. Slowly, the phone moved away from her ear, and we could see her face. She looked tired but happy.
“Hey boys,” she said with a smile. “It’s good to see you, both,”
“Likewise,” Cal responded as he leaned against me. We were cuddled close so that Ronnie could see us both.
“Aw, look at the two of you. All snuggled together…I wish I was with you,” her smile dipped slightly, and I frowned.
