FIFTEEN
Well I never thought that it would be so easy to sleep in Pedro’s room and go back to my room unnoticed, a night I thought would be full of nightmares and untold sad stories turned out to be a great one, I slept the better part of the night but after crying for almost half an hour I really needed someone to talk to and when Pedro asked me to talk to him about what was in my heart I poured my heart to him, every single worry and heart torture that was running in my head, after then I had a peaceful night beside him and in his arms , I slipped off into a deep undisturbed sleep.
“Honey you have to wake up, its nine already and I’m sure you wouldn’t want your little sister to start asking you a lot of questions, now wake your ass up go shower we have a long day today” Pedro said and I was left with no choice than to wake up, I didn’t even get time to ask about his mom , I sneaked back into our room and funny enough the duo was still sleeping so I had time to change, spread my bed and I head straight to the adjacent bathroom, I didn’t take long since we had a long day ahead of us
“Hey dummies you guys have to wake up, have you forgotten that we have to go to the morgue today?” I asked Talia and Kenadi and they wok e up
“What is the time?” Talia asked
“It’s almost ten, you have one hour before we meet Pedro’s mom in the morgue, we laying granny to rest just as per her wishes so if I were you guys I wouldn’t be here still asking questions, I would be in the shower finishing up” I said as I wiped myself
“I will shower first, let me get going, do you have any clothes with you?” Talia asked and I nodded
“Yeah just go to the shower, I ordered for clothes, specifically for today’s function” I said and just then the door was knocked. “I guess that’s our package, let me get the door” I said and headed for the door as Talia went straight to the shower
“Your package is ready and breakfast is ready you guys should be finishing up, mom just called and I had to lie to her that you were taking your breakfast so hurry up, our chauffer is downstairs.” Pedro said and left immediately even before I could respond back.
I had talked to Mrs. Montero to buy us some black dresses for the burial and trust me she has a good taste, the dresses are of the same design but of different sizes since we different body wisely.
“I think you will have to use the guest rooms bathroom to save on time” I told Kenadi as I went ahead to prepare.
It didn’t take us long, after about a few minutes they were done, we took our breakfast in total silence, and everyone was lost in their own thoughts. After breakfast, we all headed out in a somber mood, we were going to lay granny to rest and it pained me that she was innocent but she ended up dead trying to help us, maybe she wouldn’t have come to check on me in the police custody, maybe she would still be alive or maybe I should just stop blaming myself and got used to it, it already happened and there was no way I was going to change anything, like Mrs. Montero said, what was done was already done, we couldn’t change anything, we just had to get used to things and focus on getting justice for them and fighting the monster, our enemy, they would still be on our back if we didn’t get a way of striking them before they strike us when we less expected.
A black limousine was already waiting for us outside, once we boarded, the chauffer drove us towards the morgue where Pedro’s mom was waiting for us, she had finalized everything and paid even the bills and I honestly don’t how much to thanks her, she had helped us a big time and I wasn’t going to let it go, no one could have done that for us, but she did, such a pure soul!
Once at the morgue, I was asked to sign the release papers since I was the only one who could, grandma didn’t have to die, she didn’t deserve it, one look on her face and I found myself breaking into a fresh pool of tears
“Shush don’t worry sweetheart, it’s going to be okay, it will eventually be okay, may her innocent heart rest in eternal peace” Mrs. Montero said as she rubbed my shoulders soothingly.
Later after everything was finalized, we both headed to the cemetery, the drive was a silent one with Talia and Kenadi sobbing silently throughout the whole journey, but I had to be strong for them
The preacher went on and on praising Grammy, preaching about forgiveness and letting go of the bad they did to us, speeches were made and when it was my turn, I felt like crying, when I took the microphone to give my speech, I had a lot to say about my lovely, Grammy
“Grammy never stopped, right up until the day she was shot dead, Grammy just wanted to be Grammy. Good afternoon everyone? And thank you all for joining us today. My name is Danelya Roberto , granddaughter to the late Mrs. Lisa Sonya, I had the honors of having known Mrs. Lisa for almost my whole lifetime .”
“My earliest we when she’d come home at our old house with a bag full of snacks, children and comic books, my sister Talia and I were and still book lovers, she would sometimes come accompanied with Kenadi my cousin and we’d run behind the house to play after taking our snacks and when sleeping time came she would read all of us stories from the book she brought us and then give us some bedtime stories. She loved imitating Papa Bear from the Bernstein Bears book, she was a queen in imitating voices and let me tell you all one thing; she was and will always be good at it. I remember her reading me the famous SULWE book by the famous actor Lupita Nyongo, it was and still my favorite book, but apart from books, she was dedicated to her community as well, she would visit the less fortunate and would always volunteer in the community social work”.
“ There was one trait of Grammy’s that made her a bit more famous back in the village and in the neighborhood, and that was her harsh and strict character, she never allowed us to go beyond what she expected from us, she was a great disciplinarian, loving and always ready to give a good advice.”
“Until she died , I knew she died instantly but those who killed her would dearly pay for what they caused , the pain they have caused us , she didn’t deserve to die such a cruel death, but we leave everything for God to intervene. Rest easy, Grammy and don’t worry about anything, you left me behind responsible for my sisters’ safety, I will make you proud wherever you will be , everyone knows how much you were a dedicated woman, so loving and caring. We love you and miss you always” I finished and I didn’t even realize that I was sobbing; my eyes were filled with tears, Mrs. Montero walked me from the podium back to my seat.
After the speech session, my Grammy was finally laid to rest, I placed the flowers we bought on her grave, I swear my heart felt heavy again, I felt like my world was feeling heavy again, just then I heard gunshots and people screaming and running, I don’t know pulled me from the grave and shielded me from getting shot, I just had some guy shouting
“Target escaping follow the black limousine, she is escaping, can you read me?” one guy said and the next thing I knew was the car getting out of the cemetery through the gate at a terrific speed, my heart was literally beating furiously against my chest.
“My sister and my cousin, they are still there I need to go back for them!” I said while shouting but my guardian angel shushed me
“Relax everything is going to be okay” he said as he drove fast on the busy road.
“And who are you? Why are you saving me?”I asked trying to gauge his mind; I was literally shaking out of fear
