ELEVEN

The drive to where Talia was seemed long, I kept urging Pedro to drive faster and at one point i get like he was going slow on purpose

"Why are you so slow Pedro, my grandma is dying" I half shouted at him but Kenadi cut me short.

"Hey Danny, relax, can't you see Pedro is driving at 120km/hr that's already an offense, just relax we going to get grandma, she is a great survivor so no need to panic" she said and I kind of felt like it was a mockery, I wanted to reach out to her, I wanted to see her, i wanted to make sure she was okay but it was out of my control

"You don't understand Kenadi, we don't even know where papa and mama are right now, grandma is dying and I doubt she will survive before we get there"

"Exactly what I'm trying to tell you, look we are five minutes away from where they are" she said while showing me her phone, we were trying to track the duo down because apparently Talia didn't know where they were with grandma, they were in some kind of a forest in the outskirts of town.

"I just want to see them, that's all Kenadi, Pedro how far are we?" I asked trying to buy time, my heart was beating furiously.

"Just three minutes baby, keep calm baby, everything is going to be fine"

"I wish you knew" I said with my face down

"You should be positive for once my love" he said as he reversed the car and parked it a few meters away from the entrance. It was a narrow pathway leading in to the forest. We got out of the car cautiously and all the whole clinging on Pedro's clothes, saying I was tensed was an understatement, I was literally shaking out of fear. Pedro removed a small gun from his waist band and I was taken aback

"What are you doing with a gun" I asked half shouting and he shushed me

"Shush baby, that's a story for another day, right now let's focus on getting your grandma and your sister okay?"

"Yes…" I said in a low tone

We walked for about five minutes before we came to a clearing

"Talia can you hear me?" I asked about aloud and I heard her faint voice calking from the other end

"Yes Danny, I'm here" she said and I motioned Kenadi and Pedro to follow me.

The sight in front of me scared the hell of out me, my grandma was lying there in a pool of blood fighting for her life, she had two gunshot wounds, one on her chest while the other on her lower abdomen. She was breathing faintly and from the look of things she wasn't going to survive any longer, I had to talk to her.

"Granny what happened?" I asked amidst sobs and she just looked at me

"Talia why didn’t you call for an ambulance?" I asked my sister who was crying uncontrollably on the other end

"Grandma didn't want me to she wanted to talk to you before she dies, that's what she told me" Talia said and I motioned them to step aside so I could talk to her.

"Sweetheart...I want you to listen to me..your father's enemies are the ones who did this, they planned to kill the whole family, but ended up shooting me, Talia had gone to the washroom while I waiting for her, they shot me thinking it was your mother and drove off with your parents, I don't know where they are right now but what I know is that they are not good people"

"What!" I said with my mouth half hanging out of shock

"You father talked confided in me about it, it's like he knew his time had come, I want you to take care of your sister and your cousin, take care of your dad's property and make sure you fight for what belongs to you, he has struggled to reach her he was and I believe you going to make him proud, here is the letter he left I give you, it has all the direction to his bedroom, there's a safe box just under the table lamp, here is the key, I want you to ask Pedro to take you home, take everything before your greedy uncle comes home, keep them safe and when the right time comes, fight for what belongs to you" she said while struggling with her breathe and I knew there was no way she was going to survive, u was literally struggling to hear her voice, her breathe became suddenly strained

"But want about you grandma? We have to get you to the hospital" I said as I struggled to control my tears

"It's too late for that Honey, you should go to the house fast, I don't know if your parents are going to survive but I hope they do, now please leave, ask Pedro to accompany you, Kenadi and Talia will help me to the hospital or will call for an ambulance" she said and I couldn't control it anymore

"Grandma please, stay with me, I'm going to get you out of here” I said trying to shake her but she was straining to get me

"Go and make your parents proud, I love you" she said and held her last breathe, and that's when reality hit me hard, I had lost the not precious gift in my life, she was like a second mister to me and I just didn't want to keep thinking about it, what of my parents? Were they okay?"

"She's gone" I finally found my voice and the rest came running to where I was

"Grandma, please don't leave me, who I'm I going to call mom again, please wake up" Kenadi started crying and I couldn't help it, I hugged her and let her sob on my back, Talia was hugging me, her eyes were red and, here hand was bandages and I figured out she was in pain

"Pedro you have to take me home, there's something i have to get from there" I said and he gave me a questioning look

"What about us, what about grandma?" Talia asked

"I'm going to call an ambulance, after I have taken whatever grandma asked me to, I will meet you two at the hospital" I said and dialed 911

"Please there's an emergency, my grandma got shot and she's bleeding profusely, I don't know what to do please send an ambulance" I said amidst tears

"What is your location ma’am?"

"Damian streets, two blocks away from the national library" i said

"Okay there's an ambulance on its way to your place, please tie something on that wound to prevent bleeding" she said and I mumbled an okay

"You will help me carry her to the car, we will drop you to that place before Pedro drives me home, is that okay with you?" I asked and they all nodded in agreement.

Pedro helped me carry her to the car, and once we had dropped them off, he drove me home. I was in deep thoughts as he drove along the busy road

"What is on your mind honey?" He asked and I just stared blankly on the road, I didn't know what to tell him because I was already feeling like crap, loosing someone close to me was such a horrible happening to my life.

"A lot of things, I don't even know if I'm solving all these puzzles or it's just the start" I died and buried my head in my arms

It didn't take us long before we finally got to the house, it was all quiet and calm, the party cans were still on the table and I remembered the day I turned sixteen, the day when my life took a different course.

"Please stay here while I go check my parent's room, I'll be back in a few minutes" I told Pedro and he just nodded as he took his seat and switched on the TV

I rushed to the room and luckily it wasn't closed so I walked in and closed the door behind me. I had the key in my hands, I pushed the table lamp and sure enough there was something like a lid on the floor, I took the key and opened the safe, there was a flash drive, a few envelopes which I assumed had more important documents and a laptop. I picked a laptop bag which was on the bed and stuffed in everything without forgetting the letter that Grandma had given me.

I walked to the door to open it and just as I was about to open it, I heard Pedro's voice calling me from the living room

"Danny hurry up, you have to see this, it's important" he shouted and I opened the door as fast as I could, and ran downstairs as I took two stairs at a time.
