Standing next to my car on a dirt road, I tightened my grip on my phone after ending the call with Madison. She didn’t sound like herself—her voice had lost the spark I loved. I could feel her spirit fading, and I needed to get her out of that place as soon as possible.
Anxiety bubbled up inside me as I turned to face the forest, where 300 warriors I had summoned from every pack I controlled stood ready for action. I had made sure that each pack remained safe by taking only a few warriors from each. I wasn’t sure what awaited us beyond that barrier, but I needed enough strength to pull her out.
