INTRODUCTION OF NEW COACH

Stephany’s P.O.V.

We all were sitting on the bleachers at the football ground when our Dean and all our coaches came to us. I saw Noah and James with the whole football and baseball team. Bethany was with her cheerleading team. I and Jenny and the whole athletic team were sitting together.

“Good evening all of you”, Our Dean, Mr. Stewart greeted us and we all greeted him back in unison.

“All of you know that before your finals exam, Annual Sports Meet is going to be held in Fordham University’s Lincoln Center Manhattan”, we all cheered and he signaled us to be quiet.

“I am going to announce the team captains who will represent our college team at the annual functions”, he said and everyone eagerly looked at them. There was a competition for cheerleading team captaincy between Beth and Angela, for football team captaincy between Noah and Oscar, and for baseball team captaincy between Noah and Richard.

One of the coaches handed him a list and he started announcing the team’s captain. “For cheerleading team, Bethany Clarke will lead the team for this event”, everyone cheered for her and she proudly waved her hands like a queen. Uhhh…. Drama queen….. Angela looked towards her disappointed but didn’t say anything.

“For the football team, like last year Noah Williams will lead the team again this year and for baseball, Richard Gillany will lead the team”, he announced and everyone cheered for both of them. I looked at him. He was looking at me and I mouthed congrats to him. He smiled and mouthed thank you. I felt a pain in my side and looked towards there. Jenny elbowed me there and winked at me while smiling ear to ear. I rolled my eyes and mouthed shut up to her. She laughed a little.

“For our athletic team, Stephany MacField will lead all the teams, and also she will march with our college flag in both inauguration and closing ceremony”, he announced and I simply bowed a little. As a returning gesture, he also lowered down his head to one side. Then he again spoke, “Silence please. There is also an announcement. College directors have decided to introduce Martial Art as a new game this year and our college is also participating in this game”. Both I and Jenny looked at each other surprised. My heart started beating heavily. I was sensing something odd here.

“We have already selected the coach for this team and he will join us tomorrow. But I am announcing only 2 persons right now who will participate this year on behalf of the college. They are…. “, he looked at the list and my hands started sweating.

“Yeah… they are Stephany MacField and Noah Williams”, he announced and both I and Noah looked at each other in shock. We heard everyone gasping and the Dean looked at everyone.

“Well…. I guess that it’s a piece of big surprising news for all of you”, he chuckled while looking at me and Noah. Suddenly his phone rang and he picked up the call.

“If looks can kill, I am sure, you should be 6 feet underground as Beth is shooting daggers on you continuously”, Jenny whispered in my ears and I just gave her i-don’t-care-look.

“Well…. I guess that it’s time to meet our new martial art Coach. He is here and I asked him to come here. He will be here in 5 minutes”, he told us and everyone started chatting in low sounds.

Noah came towards me. “it’s really a big surprise. What do you say”, he asked me and I pursed my lips. I really didn’t know what to say. He knew that I am learning martial art since my childhood but no one knows that I am a fighter. It’s really hard to pretend that you are only a student, not a fighter.

“Steph…. What is David doing here?”, Jenny asked me and both me and Noah snapped our neck towards the direction she was looking. My eyes widened in shock. It can’t be possible. How could he join the college as martial art coach? I humped in anger and Noah looked at me in concern.

“Do you know him?”, he asked me in curiosity and I closed my eyes. "Yeah...", I said while staring at dad continuously. "He is my father", I told him and he looked at him in surprise. "He looks young", he complimented him and I gave him a cold look. he mouthed sorry and I looked away from him.

Dad came closer to Dean and both shook hands with each other. After that Dad greeted all the coaches and they welcomed him warmly. He looked towards all the students and our eyes met. I was shooting daggers at him and he mischievously smiled on me and I frowned.

Noah was looking between me and Dad. He was totally confused now.

“Everyone…. Let’s welcome our new martial art coach…. David MacField”, Dean announced and everyone cheered for him. I don’t know why but Beth made a disgusting face and rolled her eyes which fueled my anger for her.

“Bethany Williams…. Is everything alright”, it was our football coach. He somehow noticed her reaction and his tone was telling that he was upset with her. She immediately regained her composure.

“Everything is fine Sir”, she said while faking a smile.

“You should be careful about your action Bethany. Our college not only famous for its academic performances but also we are known for our moral values”, he almost lectured her shortly in a cold and stern voice in front of students.

She lowered down her head. Every student was looking at her. I really wanted to punch her hard.

The Dean cleared his throat and then looked towards me and Noah. He signaled us to come forward.

“Stephany, Noah, I want you two to work with Mr. MacField and help him to ready a team. If you two have any names in your mind then you can discuss with Mr. MacField”, he said and we both said yes sir in unison.

“So everyone… that’s all for today. All the coaches and team captains will work together to form the final team. I wish all of you the best of very good luck for your selections and the competition”, he said and dismissed all of us.

“Mr. MacField, let’s talk in my office”, he said to dad and he nodded while winking at me. I stared at him angrily. How could he hide such an important matter from me?

“Shall we”, Noah asked me politely and I nodded while lowering my gaze. I was upset with Dad. Jenny came beside me and held my hand.

We started heading towards the main gate of the college. James also came and joined us. We were all silent when Noah cleared his throat. I looked towards him and it looked like he wanted to ask something.

“Do you want to ask something”, I asked him and he scratched his back of neck nervously.

“James… will you come with me inside. I forgot to take my book from the locker”, suddenly Jenny asked James and he immediately replied, “Oh yeah… why not… come.. let’s go”. He immediately held her hand in both went towards the building.

“Wait for me in the parking”, Jenny said before going away. I looked at her in confusion. When did James and she get close to each other?

“I want to ask you something but didn’t want to create any confusion between us too”, Noah said nervously and I gave him a confused look. What was happening today?

“Don’t worry.. I will not judge you if you ask something to me. We are not close but I know that you will not say anything that could hurt me”, I said and he passed me a smile. He really had a good smile and I forgot all my anger for my father instantly.

“Well… I just wanted to ask that, will you…. Will you come.. will you come with me for coffee?”, he asked me nervously and lowered down his eyes as if he was caught while stealing. His face became red due to nervousness.

I laughed while looking at him. “Calm down Noah… I am not going to beat you for asking me for coffee”, I said while laughing and he really blushed.
