1:The nightmare always ended in fire. Every night.
Screams echoed and an enormous tower crumbled. It was hot as the fire was consuming all around. Suddenly a woman with dark brown eyes reached through the flames. "Nova." She whispered her name. "They are coming my love. Wake up, wake up. You are not safe." Nova's brown eyes shot awake, her heart pounding against her ribs. Her wet black hair now plastered to her forehead and her sheets tangled around her legs. The room around Nova was dark and quiet, too quiet, but the nightmare was still clung to her because as always. Too real. The moonlight filtered through the half-open blinds of the farmhouse. Her aunt Rebecca always said this pace was safe, deep in the forest, outside the city. But Nova couldn't shake the feeling that something was changing, rapidly. She looked down at her hand, her palm that had a scar, it looked like a small star. Her birthmark. Nova got out of bed, pushing off the covers and padded barefoot towards the window. The cold glass felt strange on her fingers. And then a loud c***k spilt the night. The noise was loud. "Huuh." She gasped. Suddenly, from the hallway, soft footsteps approached. Nova immediately turned only to see Rebecca, her aunt rushed into the room scared, yet prepared. Her long-honey hair in a bun and she looked worried. "We need to leave." She said and rushed her out of the room . But Nova stayed and looked out the window. There was something happening, everything was moving. The garden was getting darker like black smoke covering it. She could feel it in her gut. "Come with me. We have to leave." Rebecca grabbed her and pulled. But Nova pulled her hand away scared. "No—you need to tell me what is going on. What's happening outside?" Nova asked and Rebecca knew there was no way out of this. "I will tell you everything but we need to---" She rushed her out to the living room, but they stopped on her track when suddenly darkness and black smoke plunged into the house, surrounding the floor and the ceiling. A low hum vibration came through the air. There was sharp silence. Nova looked around. They were alone, but it didn't feel like it this time. And right then the doors of the house burnt in with a powerful force. The doors broke into pieces. "Ahhhh..." Nova screams with her hands on her ear and Rebecca saw a large wooden piece coming towards Nova and she was scared Nova would get hurt. "NOVA" Rebecca screams. Pushing Nova, as she fell to the ground face first. Nova could hear the glass of mirrors and window break in pieces. Some even fell on her. All she saw was darkness around her. "Rebecca?" Nova called out for her, scared for her aunt. There was coldness in the air and a burning metal smell surrounded her. Suddenly the darkness started to melt away and a few figures stepped into the house. Nova could see them, but not clearly. "Give us the marked one, Rebecca. And we won't hurt you." A voice came, their faces hidden with a mask and hoods, hand glowed and a shadowy magic, like tendrils, snake like black mist coming out from their hands. Nova's breathing got heavy. "The marked one." One masked man said. Pointing at Nova. "Stay away from her. I will not say this again." Rebecca commanded, stepping forward, both her hands raised. Nova saw how her aunts hands were creating a white glow, so bright that she couldn't look longer. Her palm flowed light- white, liquid smoke, swirling in elegant patterns. There was a smell of wildflowers and thunder. Nova didn't know what was going on. "Back." Rebecca warned, there was power in her voice. "She is under the protection of the blood line." She said. And the men answered with snarling laughter. "TAKE HER." He scream and all five of them attacked. Two sent black mist shooting towards Nova who was stunned. Her eyes wide open in horror But Rebecca stood right in front of Nova and crossed her arms, and a shield of a white glowing light formed. The entire house turned to a white ball of light. Nova could see everything now. The black magic sizzled against it. Rebecca unleashed her power. And light exploded from her hands, striking one man on the chest. He screamed, his body writhing as if he was scorched by sunlight. Another charged from the side, but Rebecca spun, her hair still flying free. Sending a whip of white smoke lashing through his throat. Nova was shook watching with wide, scared eyes. It was a battle of light against darkness. Last two men attacked together and Rebecca raised her arms and drove a burst of light directly at them, burning them. And even their black magic couldn't hold the light back. They scream as the fire consumed them and all five were dead. Nova stared at the bodies. "What....what is happening?" Rebecca didn't answer, she was tired. Suddenly an explosion comes from behind them. Rebecca turned, but too late A dark spear of magic slammed into her. "AHHHHH" Rebecca screamed, crashing to the ground. "REBECCA." Nova screamed, reaching her aunt and there came more of those men. She was scared, and her aunt was hurt. Immediately throwing herself on top of her aunt, protecting her while the air turned black. Ten more men, clocked in shadow and smoke. Surrounding them in a ring. Their magic hissed, and fire surrounded them. Nova trembled, helpless, coughing trembling. "Reb..ecca. I—I don't know what to do." She whispered, clutching her aunt's hand. Nova was scared for her aunt and not for herself. Something happened right then, as fear consumed her. Nova's palm burned and a searing white hot glow made her gasp. With tears in her eyes she looked at her hand that was shaking. "It's starting." A man whispered. For once she could hear a kind of panic in his voice. The white glow started growing and she could feel her skin burning up. Her eyes glowing at the same time. She could feel her body changing, faster. The shadow men raised their hands, preparing to stop her, when suddenly there was a large blow from behind them. An entire wall was torn. And brick, dust was everywhere. The air grew thick, dense, heavy as the people stopped chanting. And there came a green mist pouring through, thick and fast, curling the floor like smoke from a dragon's mouth. The dark men paused. And out of the mist strode a man. A large man. Tall. Silent. Cloaked in storm. Nova looked up to see there was no magic, just a weapon. Long, obsidian blade strapped across his back and a shorter one drawn in his hand. His eyes were ice and moved like a ghost, without sound. She looked at her hands and they were back to normal, like nothing happened to her "Kill him." One shadow man ordered. And before he could finish. The steel flashed and throat was slit. The men gasped and the air shifted "KILL HIM." Another screams and lunged at him, but the man twisted as the blade carved the masked man open. The man was powerful, precise, deadly. Nova watched, stunned. He didn't speak, didn't hesitate. The green mist clung in the air. He didn't use spell, he used fear. And one by one he was killing all of them. Bodies falling to the ground in a thud. When the last shadow man fell to the floor, the man turned to Nova. The blade dripped in black blood, his coat soaked in rain and smoke. She couldn't speak. Her face still wet from crying. His eyes met hers and in the moment something passed between them. As he stood above her. "Get up." His voice was thick, cold, deep, unshaken. She looked down, trembling, her fingers tangled with her aunt's. Nova looked back at him. Scared as to what did this man want from her?. His coat flared behind him like a smoke and his face carved from stone. Unreadable and dangerous. Nova didn't move fast enough. And with a frustrated grunt he stepped forward, grabbed her arm, hauled her to her feet like she weighed nothing. "Move." He growled. "More will come." He was about to drag her away and Nova noticed her aunt. Barely conscious, her white magic spent. "No, wait.. My aunt, she's hurt." The man didn't spare her a glance. He simply crouched beside Rebecca, placed two fingers on her temple and muttered something. A soft shimmer passed over her body. "What are you..." "A protective seal." His commanding voice came through. "She will be safe. But she cannot come." Her eyes went wide open. "Wait? No—" Nova hesitated, tears stinging her eyes. "She's all I have." The man looked at Nova, expression unreadable. "Don't waste time." He said, grabbing her arm and pulling her closer. Her breath stuck to her as their chest touched. This feeling was different, him around her, she felt different. The man too, his eyes carefully scanned every part of her face, like he was memorizing. His tight grip on her was going soft now, and she was in less pain. Immediately, his brown eyes snapped out of it, he pulled her out of the house. His breath now steady but not hers. They were walking through the bodies of the men. He didn't even once look down, but she was too frightened to speak. Once outside, she saw how her entire farm was burning. Her childhood was here. She grew up, played, learned to walk here and now this will be dust. The sound of her horses forced her to turn. Only to see them free and running. They were safe. Nova's feet stumbled over roots, as they left the farm and entered the woods. It was darker in there. Within no time, they reach a SUV, half-hidden. Black. "Get in." He ordered, grabbing her and pushing her inside the car and he jumped into the driver's seat. The tired screamed as he hit the gas and sped into the fog. "Where are we going?" She screamed and turned to him. He was concentrating. Not getting an answer made her irritated. So she turned around, only to see they was a dark fog following them. From everywhere. Her eyes went wide open in shock and fear. She turned ahead when suddenly, a black fog rushed towards the car and immediately this man made a right turn. Saving her. However, this turn was so sharp that Nova couldn't handle her body and she slammed her head to the window. The hit was loud and harsh. It knocked her out. Her eyes closed but all she could hear was the man calling her name. "Nova, wake up. Nova."
