Roseanne seemed determined to show that she was no longer a pushover.
Purposefully missing her mother’s birthday is enough to inform noblemen that she doesn’t regard any importance to her the Baroness. Everyone who attended was only interested in one thing—and that is the Duchess’s attendance. Genieve expected that Roseanne would give her lavish gifts, or at least attend the party.
And all were surprised that nothing of the sort had happened.
Roseanne loved her mother, enough that she would hand the woman anything she wanted, and more. But that doesn’t seem to be the case anymore.
“I heard that the Duchess dotes her mother,” one noblewoman whispered to another, with other people catching the conversation.
