Serena had spent the next two days completely heartbroken, breaking down and crying at different times of the day while Annabelle did her best to comfort 'mummy' with hugs and kisses, not understanding why she was so upset. She'd wrestled with her decision, clinging desperately to the small sliver of hope that Xavier would somehow change his mind, but she already knew with how final he had sounded, that he wouldn't.
