I head to campus with my head down and earbuds in. I hum along to four songs. I turned into the center and into the main building where the food court was. On the second level, I find Ellie in the café sipping on a mocha. I walked up to her booth and pulled my earbuds out.
"Why don't you drive? You know it's easier when you drive?" She sighs, looking at my face. My eyebrows scrunch.
"What?" Taking the latté, she bought for me and took a long sip, knowing what she meant, just not wanting to think about it.
"Don't what me!" She whispers in a hard hush. I just rolled my eyes,
"Are we going to talk about this now?" I sighed. She shrugs, giving me you’ll hear it later look. I give her a smile. She acts like I’m her sister and tends to take care of me. Since she is older by a few months, she has always had my best interest at heart, but a b***h at times,
"Whatever, so, there's a sale at the mall we are going after classes are done! There is the cutest outfit out there screaming your name." She grins widely, feeling proud. I shrug. I am not one for shopping. I can never find anything that looks good on me and my tall twiggy frame.
"Fine." We start going through some things for class when she says,
"Oh, Emilio and Trevor are coming too." My eyes pop out of my head. I love Emilio, he is like a brother, an older annoying brother. He was tall for being related to Ellie, 6 feet tall to be exact. Trevor is his friend, best friend and has always been around. He is drop-dead gorgeous with his deep green eyes, dark brown hair and muscular form with a charming perfect smile. He is smart, funny, flirty, sexy, and bad for me. He always teased me, never in a bad way, more like a sibling. He can’t mean. It isn’t in his nature. I get why I thought I have always been a normal looking girl since I was 5'11, skinny with no style as Ellie likes to remind me in a funny way of hers, but it doesn't help that I have long crazy brown hair that has to have a mind of its own and plain brown eyes. Growing up he was always nice and sweet, but he was a playboy flirting with every girl he wanted. He recently dumped or was dumped by his last girlfriend and has been flirting with me too, like he does everyone else. He says I have a willow-like body and graceful with the way I walk or some cr*p like that. Along with being so kind and helping me, I get a feeling around him, I haven’t thought about since high school and I can’t do it. I don’t date playboy. He could have anyone, and he naturally does. That is why I refuse to go along and be another he can win over just to leave me and never talk to him again. I have been around him for as long as I’ve been around Ellie, but he, he does something to me when we are together lately more so the past few months, but I don't know if I can trust that he wouldn’t just use me.
"Why?" I asked calmly. She arches one of her eyebrows like she knows my heart started to beat ten times faster at the mention of Trevor, but says.
"Stupid Emilio said he was going to tag along to buy something for his girlfriend. He forgot about their anniversary. Anyway, he was stupid and has to go buy a gift before tomorrow." She sighs and shrugs.
"So, Trevor is coming to help him then." I started moving closer, looking down at my outfit. I accidentally groaned out loud. “I can’t believe this is what I thought I’d wear today.” She rolled her eyes smiling wide.
“Without a worry and in a hurry transform the blah of an outfit to that of Sammy’s style, long skirt and blouse match she has hidden.” My mouth hung open and eyes widen I fell into her trap. F*ck and she used magic! I sigh, my shoulders hunch,
"You're such a b***h you know that." I hit her arm, “Are you crazy to use your magic, is this...” I look closer to the outfit, “This is from my closet, how did you?” I breathed, “Don’t do that again.” Her smile reaches its limit as she answered.
"I know, but you love me anyway. And yes, I have seen your clothes, so it was easy. Don’t worry, I picked this spot for a reason no one can see me changing your clothes with a little angel power. Anyway," She drags the word out. "Trevor was pulled in by Emilio and had to help but was eager to go to see you." I rolled my eyes seriously, that was it. I got my hopes up for no reason. Of course, it wasn't for me no matter what Ellie says, but at least I don’t look like a homeless person anymore in my sweats and tank top. "AW, you are too cute, don’t worry you're cute he’ll forget about Emilio and spend time with you, it might turn out to a date if I can help it." She pokes my arm as we finish our drinks.
"F*ck off." I mumbled, "I don’t want to have a date with him, he is just an old friend and nothing more. I am not even dating, anyway." She waves a hand dismissing my comment, then gets up to throw out her empty cup. I follow to toast mine. As we get to our seats, she pats my shoulder.
“Okay, whatever you say sweetie.” Looking down at her watch, “Let’s get to class.”
After the school hours were up for us, we had agreed to meet at the food court since she gets out before I do. I headed down and saw her and two bodies sitting across from her. I almost stumble back when I hear her shout my name I can’t run now. I sigh,
"Sammy, Sam!" She stood and waved me over. I wanted to run far, far away even more when the two turned, more like when Trevor turned and smiled at me, it was the guys. I should be okay it's not like I haven't met them before, it's just hard to be around Trevor since I started to like him. ‘No, Samantha you don’t like him it’s not a good idea.’ I take a deep breath reminding myself repeatedly as I walk over. 'I rather deal with spirits right about now.' Right on que they start showing up, one in the café upstairs, one in the window, two girls in the tv to my right and one breathing down my neck. I shuddered slightly as the cold grew but kept walking to the table. Upon arriving, I see a lot of articles and clippings.
"Quick pick." Emilio held up two articles of clothing and a jeweler. My eyes shifted back and forth.
"Uhhh.... hmm.... ahhh!" I point to a bracelet in the jeweler's catalog, "This!" Proud of my decision, he turns the paper and frowns.
"Ah, what! What is wrong, I like it!" I took a seat next to Ellie across from Trevor and crossed my arms in a huff.
"It's not you, he's been like this for three days." Trevor sighed, shrugging one shoulder. He does this little movement with his hand as if he was a conductor of his own little band, but instead of music I feel the regular summer heat coming back in the air, I let out a small breath I didn’t know I held. I looked at him slightly. He is gorgeous as ever; his dark brown clean hair shinning in the natural light is pushed back from his face I must have looked too long because he caught me staring. He smiles at me, his eyes shining, his pearly white smile hits my heart, and it kicks a little fast. I looked away back at the catalogs on the table. I saw his sun kiss skin, unusual for living here your whole life. He moved to reach over. I looked up again, his green eyes fixed on me with intense heat (but that could just be me). He pats my head,
“Your hair was sticking out.” He says with a smile, his hand creasing over the frizzy mess caused by the nasty heat I took him in even more. He was wearing a plain black shirt, his biker jacket I realized was hanging on the back of his chair. His glaze doesn't leave mine even after he moves his hand back until Ellie picks up a magazine, placing it so close to Emilio's face, he couldn’t really see it, so he moves it back. He almost chokes on air.
"Here. That is what you are looking for. She put it in my stack for a reason!" It was a catalog for engagement rings. "What!!! What!" He almost fell from his chair. Ellie shrugs with an annoying sigh,
"You two have been dating for how long?"
"Five years," He mumbles.
"Five-years, mi hermano, Cinco anos! Grow some balls and ask if she's ready, you're ready, come on!" He sighs then goes red.
"Your right." Then he smiles to himself almost, "Gracias bruja." She just laughs and pat his shoulder. I smile, ‘He is nothing like his twin.’
"Come on let's go." She hops out of her seat, and we all follow her to Emilio's truck.
"Are you guys going to look at the rings with me?" He asks after he gets behind the wheel, then on the road. She laughs.
"Sales first!" She cheers happily. I rolled my eyes.
