~~Aurora~~ “Mrs. Hawthorne?” The repeated knocking echoed in my mind. The sound pulled me out of the heavy fog of sleep. At first, I didn’t want to move. My body felt glued to the bed. Just five more minutes, I told myself, curling deeper into the blanket. Maybe whoever it was would just go away. But the knocking came again. Louder. Harder, and more f*****g persistent. “Mrs. Hawthorne? Mrs. Hawthorne? May I come in, ma’am?” I wanted nothing more than for whoever it was meant for to f*****g get the goddamn door— “Wait.” My heartbeat slurred, then started to race. Mrs. Hawthorne? My eyelids flew open. For a second, my sleepy brain didn’t register it. Then it hit me like a cold slap across the face. Oh God. That’s me! I sat up so fast my eyesight turned woozy. I was married.
