"Dani never said."
Sebastian narrowed his eyes, looking a little wounded by my distant response. Typically, I would lean into his clinginess and crave more of it.
"If she stays too long, what should I do if I miss my Ivy?"
"Have you forgotten that I am also on my period? Use your hand in the meantime."
Sebastian's eyes darkened. "What is my honey bunny thinking? Do I miss you just for s*x?"
I stared at him, caught off guard. What else was it? It certainly wasn't love. I knew that for a fact.
"Isn't that what you seek most when we're together? You only ever seem to have time for s*x with the lights on. What else could there be lately?" My heart clenched as my mind mocked me.
Sebastian was stunned for a moment, then smiled narrowly, "I'm sorry I didn't spend more time with you. I allowed my pack affairs and my father's need for me to push harder in training to take priority. I am set to take over the pack soon, and he has become unrelenting. How about this? After your sister leaves, I'll clear my schedule for a few days and take you on a trip. You can choose the place, okay?"
He was too accustomed to being in control of the direction our conversations took. In the past, at the mere mention of him clearing his schedule for me would bring me to my knees in joy, and a reward for him in return.
But now, when I heard his offer, repulsion was all I felt.
Finally seeing the bigger picture thanks to his friends, I realized that aside from expensive gifts and s*x, Sebastian hardly spent time with me.
And gifts were the simplest way to force a female's obedience in Sebastian's eyes. No female would ever be allotted unrestricted time from him. None of them were ever worth the value of it.
A McGregor was never short of money.
Sebastian's phone rang. He pulled away and took out his phone. From the corner of my eye, I saw the name "Elle" fill the screen.
Sebastian ignored the call and sent it to voicemail, but it rang again.
He answered it.
After a while, he frowned, "I see. I'll be right there."
Putting away his phone, he kissed my cheek, "Since you are on your period, and I was worried about your stomachache. When I was on my way here, I stopped and brought you some soup and your favourite chocolate treats for those ravenous cravings. I have an important pack meeting to attend, so I have to leave. Take care of yourself, okay?"
I nodded slightly. Not really paying attention.
Sebastian's figure disappeared quickly, and the sound of the door clicking closed shook me from my dazed state.
If I had any lingering doubts, seeing his retreat and hearing his excuse to leave after Elle called him back confirmed it all.
I was a fool to trust someone with his reputation.
How could a playboy only have one female? Better yet, an Alpha heir accepting a wolfless born as his Luna.
If I had paid more attention, I would have discovered Elle sooner. All those late calls that took him away. It all made sense.
I walked into the bathroom, looked in the mirror, and wiped the cheek that Sebastian had kissed with a face towel.
Walking out of the bathroom, I saw the chocolates and soup. I picked it up; it was still hot.
It took at least half an hour to drive from our luxury apartment to here. The meal should have cooled by now, but it was still quite hot. That told me he picked it up close by. Was it a passing thought to appease me last minute? Or did he consider the temperature with travel?
Two days ago, my heart would have melted at the thoughtfulness of him, but now I could feel the ice taking form around me. I hated that everyone thought they could move me around to where they pleased. My parents, my sister, the pack, and Sebastian. Even Scarlet kept secrets out of fear that I wouldn't be able to handle it.
They were all wrong, though.
I dumped out the soul and tossed the chocolate and take-out container in the trash where it belonged. If I could, I would have tossed Sebastian in there, too.
I set an alarm and decided to take a nap before I met with Dani.
When I woke up, it was already past three o'clock.
I got up to wash up and figure out what to wear. I knew I would be silently judged on my fashion choices. My phone received a message.
It was from Sebastian.
【I changed your car to a Bugatti. The license plate number is your birthday. The key is in the mailbox at the door. Remember to get it.】
I rolled my eyes and scoffed! He was really generous. It's no wonder that all the women who had relationships with him held him in high regard.
Since he wanted to give it, I would take it.
I took the key and went to the parking lot. At a glance, I saw a pink Bugatti sports car. The new paint was shining in the sunlight. The old me would have swooned.
I drove to the airport and stood at the exit.
It was less than ten minutes later when I saw Danielle's tall figure in the crowd. Her long chestnut hair was neatly combed into a low ponytail, coiled up to reveal her smooth forehead. The gray smoky makeup and bright red lipstick made her look cold and charming.
Danielle stopped in front of me and let go of the suitcase. She curled her lips into a smile and opened her arms to me. My nose burned with emotion. I threw myself into Danielle's arms.
In an instant, all my grievances poured out through tears. We hugged each other tightly. Danielle feels me tremble in her arms.
"Ivy, what's wrong? Did your boyfriend mistreat you?" She immediately held my shoulders and pushed me away from her. Then she saw my tearful eyes.
I shook her head, choking, "I missed you, Dani."
"Didn't we get together on New Year's? It's only been a few months. If you miss me, you're welcome to go home at any time. Mum and Dad would love it, I'm sure. You have no idea how much they miss you."
Danielle put one arm around my shoulder and pulled the suitcase with the other, walking towards the airport exit.
We chatted as we walked.
When we reached my car, Danielle noticed that I had changed vehicles again, but she didn't say anything.
Danielle knew that I might look gentle, but I was very good at managing my money. It was not surprising for me to trade in my cars for something new and exciting from time to time. Besides, even if I didn't make my own money, our family could afford it.
Just as we were about to get in the car, we both saw Sebastian!
A woman followed Sebastian. Although I had never seen her, I recognized her from her appearance as Elle on i********:.
"Mutt!" Danielle snorted.
Sebastian and Elle had just gotten out of the car. Sebastian was pulling the suitcase, and they were walking towards the airport.
In the blink of an eye, Sebastian looked up, sniffing the air and happened to meet my gaze.
Then Danielle said to me beside her, "See? He is nothing but a mutt! Don't ask about him in the future."
I looked away, pretending not to care about seeing Sebastian standing there, with another woman. I had already started the car. In the rearview mirror, Sebastian's gaze was in our direction, and he stood straight without moving.
I figured he was captivated by the sight of Dani again.
The car gradually drove away.
"Dani, the woman beside him looks a lot like you. You don’t think that’s odd?"
Danielle's face stiffened slightly, then she smiled, "I didn't catch that at all. I only saw yet another plastic model on his arm. He has standards for beauty, that is all. He would never chase an ugly woman."
Dani chuckled dryly but never mentioned that Sebastian had pursued her.
It bothered me now more than ever that she was keeping this chapter of her life from me. Especially since he was with me to get closer to her, I was nothing more than a cheap substitute that he was only chasing to get his revenge.
My heart bled at my reality. Merely a tool.
We returned to my place, and Dani said she wanted to rest for a while before going to dinner. I was told to wake her for seven pm.
After Dani went to rest in the guest room, my i********: notifications kept dinging. On the screen notification, there were two i********: messages, one from Sebastian and one from Elle.
I opened Elle's message first. 【Who was that woman with you today?】
Even Elle felt threatened after seeing my sister.
I didn't reply. Why would I? We weren’t friends. I still hadn't deleted Elle's contact yet; Elle could prove to be useful for me later.
Then I opened Sebastian's chat.
【Ivy, don't forget our promise tonight, okay?】
What promise? Right, his gift. Sorry to deflate you, Sebastian, it isn’t as exciting as it once was.
