Crescent Moon Pack.
Alpha Duncan sat on a tree stomp in the forest. He and his friends used to hang out here a lot. Being the second son of the then alpha, he had never bothered himself with the running of the pack. His belief was that his brother will take over from their father, and he will have to carve out his own destiny. So instead of paying attention to what was going on, he had invested all his energy into physical training.
A mind link from the warriors on patrol reporting an approaching entourage disturbed his thoughts. He acknowledged the information and asked his warriors if they could tell who the visitors were.
He turned around again. That feeling of being watched has been plaguing him since he saw that unusual owl, and he has never shaken it off. In fact, he has stopped Lily from coming here with him because of that eerie feeling. Well, not entirely because of that, he has also been feeling suffocated by her of late.
The thought of his chosen had him sighing tiredly. The past week has seen him asking himself if he made a mistake by choosing her. Ever since his attempt to mark her failed, she has turned into someone else, and he was beginning to regret his decision. He did not mind her whining, but it was the added nagging that was driving him crazy.
She has grown bitter over everything, and that was driving him up the wall. He has done everything he could to make her happy, even to the point of postponing his trip till she was strong enough. In one of their now frequent arguments, Lily had told him she could not trust him alone with any other female. He knew that statement was not because of something he had done, because he has done nothing to make her doubt his commitment to her.
Her lack of confidence was also turning him off, too. How long will he keep reassuring her? She has even gone as far as forbidding the other young females of the pack from approaching him. According to what he just learnt today, she has warned them never to come to him for any reason but to bring all of their complaints to her. He had no problem with that, but what he found offensive was that she kept those issues to herself, and when he confronted her, she had called them trivial. Issues that were plaguing his members!
Her lack of judgment pissed him off. How could she conclude that being abandoned by one’s mate while pregnant was trivial? The young female, Cara, had only found her mate a few months ago. They completed the mating process, and she was now pregnant. The female had cried to him that afternoon, because her mate’s activity with another female was hurting both her and her unborn baby. He almost tore the male apart when he they brought him to his office.
He had been so angry until it occurred to him that his own mate may have had to endure the same fate. Ever since this issue was brought to his attention, he has been wondering if April went through the same pain whenever he was with Lily. He shuddered at that thought and prayed that she didn’t.
He abandoned the trail of that thought and instead tried to reach out to his wolf again. It pained him that Idris could stay away from him for this long. His pained however turned into pure panic as it occurred to him that maybe his wolf was not silent but have utterly abandoned him. Cold fear seized him and drove him to his feet. He needed to find out if it was possible for one’s wolf to leave.
He made his way back towards the pack house but the thought of facing Lily had him making a detour for his office instead. He ignored the condition of his environment as he made his way on the once lush footpath. The earth underneath his feet has since turned to brown crust from lack of rain and the weather looked to be obscured with dust as evening merged with the approaching darkness.
He felt his heart take a huge leap moments before one of the guards informed him that they had visitors from the king. Alpha Duncan wondered why his heart was skipping beats as he walked towards the main entrance to wait for the arrival of his guests.
Just as the entourage came to a stop in front of the main building, his heart rate picked up as if to make up for the skipped beats. Confusion set in when the scent of apples and honey hit him so hard that he almost toppled over. Even Idris stirred as the scent wafted into his nostrils, but alpha Duncan was too astounded to notice. He knew that scent and the female it belonged to. In fact, that scent and its owner belonged to him. He could barely hold himself back as he watched about a dozen lycans emerge, and with them was his mate, April.
She was a sight to behold, her dark hair looked messy probably from her journey, but she still beautiful. Her almond shaped eyes looked as if they were slightly tilted at the outer edges. Strong cheekbone and intense icy blue eyes scanned her environment. His eyes moved to her cupid bow shaped lips and he bit down on the inside of his own to keep them from trembling.
April took a careful look around her as if to take in her new environment. Although it was dusk, she could still make out her surroundings. The whole place looked dry and dusty, she could feel the dust on her lips and was sure they will be clinging to her eyelids and brows as well.
However she could not deny the rugged beauty of the terrain. She looked at the dust covered building and wondered when last they saw rain in this place. The whole place looked parched, but she could tell it was once as beautiful as the landscape at the entrance of this lands. While she was taking in her environment, a small child ran towards her and her assigned guards tried to stop him, but she waved them aside and encouraged the child to come to her.
She crouched down to his height and introduced herself to him. The boy tilted his head to one side, as if studying her. April patiently waited for him, when he was satisfied, he smiled sweetly and raised his hands, signalling that he wants her to pick him up. She did and tucked some stray strands of hair behind his ears. Tickling him as she did so. The boy giggled gleefully, and April did the same thing with his other ear. She noticed a nervous woman standing not too far off and beckoned on her. After introducing herself as a visiting guest, she asked if she was the boy’s mother, the lady nodded and introduced herself as Megan.
April handed the boy back to Megan and smiled at the both of them as they walked away. She turned to alpha Duncan and the smile on her face was instantly wiped away.
“Hello alpha Duncan, I am here in lieu of the king. Please can we go in and talk.”
Alpha Duncan nodded his head as he found himself unable to speak. He gestured for them to follow him into the building. As soon as April and her guards walked into the building, the skies instantly became heavy with thick clouds and huge droplets of rain began to hit the earth. The rumbling of thunder and the flashes of lightning announced the onset of a storm. The shock on the alpha’s face said it all. It has been long since they last saw any form of rainfall.
