Jeremiah’s POV
I stretched out the kinks in my back. ‘Damn it. I fell asleep at my desk again.’ I thought to myself. ‘Good thing our lovely mate isn’t here, otherwise you would be getting an earful.’ Logan says in my head. ‘Don’t I know it.’ I replied.
The ache I feel whenever I have to travel without my beloved mate with me intensifies. I hate it when we are apart. It's times like these that I’m thankful to know she has Drake and Luca with her. She doesn’t have to feel the empty pit like I do. I know she misses me when we speak on the phone, but I know it is not as bad as if she were alone with her worries.
I look down at the papers all over my desk and wonder how much more I am going to have to travel around. My sisters have also been moving in different directions to try and help contain this problem.
It is no surprise that when I mated with Melody and made her my queen, there were a lot of vampires who hated it with a passion. So much so that around 20% of them declared their loyalties to one of my old generals… Jasper Killoran. He was the most displeased, and most of the soldiers under his command left with him.
He has not made any big moves as of late. Though from all the information my spies can gather, he is growing his army more and more. With rogue vampires that are close to becoming lost souls, no less. I just don’t know what his big plan is. The only thing I can think of is that he is planning for war and possibly a full-on rebellion against the crown. He may as well be planning to usurp the top and remove the vampire from the packs.
I am pulled from my thoughts when my laptop pings with a notification. I pull up the tab and see that Melody is requesting a video chat from me. I hit accept and smile as I see her face. “Hello, moye serdtse. (my heart) How are you doing?” I greet her. She gives me a big smile. “I am doing okay. I miss you, though.” She said with a pout.
I chuckle. “I miss you as well, love. No words could ever describe how I feel when we are a part.” I tell her honestly. Melody smiles. “I swear the Moon Goddess truly blessed me with the three of you. I never feel alone, no matter what, and each of you knows exactly what to say to make me swoon all over again.” She says with a big smile and a light blush on her cheeks.
I rest my head on my hands and my elbows on the desk. “How are the children?” I ask. Melody goes on to tell me about how our children have been while I have been away. I love hearing that my children are doing pretty good. I hate being away from them as much as my mate, but work is important. Especially when it comes with a possible rebellion. I make sure to spend extra time with the children when I am home so they always feel my love for them.
“Oh, and there is some new development that Luca wanted to talk to you about.” Melody said. I tilt my head in curiosity. “Development? What happened?” I asked. “A hybrid girl, Karisma, is staying with us for a bit until we can transfer her to the academy to finish up her senior year, but apparently, a neighboring pack has been discriminating against hybrids and passing it through the students. Karisma has been getting bullied at school, and even some of her own pack members have started isolating her when she in home.” Melody says.
I growl at that. Since mating with Melody… Drake, Luca, and I have made it quite clear to everyone within our kingdoms that those who have mates and offspring of different creatures are to be treated the same as anyone else. We know that there were always going to be some cases that pop up, but if Melody is telling me this now, then it must have escalated to the extreme.
“How did it come to our attention?” I asked. From the scowl my mate gave me. I knew I was not going to like the answer any more than she did. “The beta and son of the gamma got into a physical altercation with her on school grounds.” She said, but from the huff she gave, I am assuming that she is only giving me a soft version of the story.
“Riley happened to be there and intervened. She brought Karisma to the pack house before having to report to take care of an emergency in Eldoas with a magic beast. Karisma was treated for silver wounds and then spoke to Riely, Luca, and Tobais when Riley returned.” Melody said. I nodded.
Suddenly, there was noise behind Melody that made her turn around. Drake and Luca had just come into the bedroom. “Hey, little mate, is that Jeremiah on the video call?” Drake asked. Melody half turned with a smile and nodded. “Yes, I was updating him about Karisma’s case.” She answered.
“Good. I was hoping her could make time to get here as soon as he could.” Luca said. I frowned at that. “Why do I need to be there?” I asked. I know Melody mentioned that the girl was a hybrid, but that didn’t mean I had to be present while she and Luca dealt with the pack. “It seems that when Karisma was younger, she caught the attention of rogue vampires and was tried to kidnap her when she was about six or seven. Ever since then, she has not been anywhere without one of the ranked members with her unless it was school, and now even that has become unsafe for her.” Luca said.
I frowned harder. Why would rogue vampires go after a hybrid? They mostly preferred full blooded wolves. Unless… “Luca, what kind of hybrid is Karisma?” I asked. Luca looked directly back at me and said with full confidence. “She is a wolf and vampire hybrid.” I felt my soul shudder. “And I think it should be taken into consideration that another hybrid has become clearly interested in her.” Drake said. Melody let out a soft snort.
“I will be home within a few days. Go ahead and do what needs to be done about the pack you were talking about, Meoldy, but try to make sure that Karisma does not leave Royal Moon until I have had a chance to speak with her.” I said before grabbing my cell phone. Looking up what I need to handle ASAP before I can leave. I need to see this girl for myself.
