Chapter Nine

820 Words
Roman's P.O.V Within my dream, there were two pale hands stretched out towards me. Attached to those hands were the smaller being we found the other day. Their large eyes were closed and their light pink lips were parted. As I stretched my hands out towards them they started to get further and further away from me. Just when I was about to get them into my grasp an irritatingly loud buzzing noise fills the air. Everything goes dark, I shift in the bed but the buzzing just keeps getting louder. Irritated my eyes flutter open. They groggily glance up towards the rectangular box hanging on the wall right next to my bed. My hand limply rises and roughly lands on the small orange button to turn the intercom on. “This had better be good.” I snap at whoever dared to wake me from my sleep. Seconds go by and William's voice comes through the speaker. “Alpha, they're awake.” With that, my eyes widen as I quickly rise from the sleeping pod and swing my legs over the edge. Hastily I pull on my large soft light-gray pants and make my way out of my sleeping chambers and down towards the sick bay. Once there I take in William rubbing the back of his head with a concerned look upon his tired face. He sniffs at the air and pivots around to face me. The once concerned look fades away and is replaced with nothing but relief at my presence. “Oh, Alpha. Good, you're here. I can't figure out what the hell they are saying.” William says as he slowly shakes his head from side to side. Stepping into the room my eyes frantically scan the area looking for the being. There, in the far left corner of the room is a pale quivering shape. "Why didn't you mind link me sooner and what the hell did you do to them?" I growl out as my anger-filled eyes look back towards William. "I tried to Alpha but you wouldn't wake up and I didn't do anything to them." My eyes soften as they shift back to the scared being. Slowly I approach the being as not to startle them further. It takes some time to make it over there. My brow furrows at the site of the petite creature cowering in the corner. My knees bend towards the smooth ground. Stretching my hand out it lands lightly upon their thin shoulder. The being sniffles slightly; breathing in the air around them. I can feel my chest getting tighter and my eyes are filled with sadness as I take in their scared form. Soon coldness seeps across my hand as it still lays on top of their ever so soft and smooth skin. “Shhh.” I coo softly as to coax them into calming themselves. “It's okay. There's no need to be afraid little one. My name is Roman” I softly say as my eyes intently watch their crouched form. The shaking underneath my hand halts. Their small head rises; opening their eyes to reveal two sparkling large teal blue eyes. Light pink thin lips part to reveal the most beautiful sound my ears have ever heard. “Seren.” They whisper while looking up into my eyes. “What does that mean?” William snaps aggravation seeping through his words. The being's small frail hand slowly reaches up and lands upon my bare chest. “Roman.” They say then touch their chest. “Seren.” “So they understand yet don't know how to give me any answers!” With that William throws up his hands and stomps out of the room. “Sorry about him. He's a good guy and means well but sometimes has a short temper. So, why were you in hypersleep and buried?” I ask as my eyes wander down to find Seren's pale cheeks reddened. My hand flies up to check the warmth of their forehead. Seren's icy skin sends shocking sensations throughout my hand and up my arm. Pulling my hand away at the newfound sensation I hastily get up and go over towards the cabinets in search of some warm clothes. Unfortunately, I cannot find any spare clothes within the cabinets. Just what the hell was William thinking when he restocked everything in here? A long aggravated breath leaves my lips as I settle on another thick red blanket. Quickly I pivot around and drape the blanket gently over Seren. My hand gently grazes their cheek. Seren's hands fly up to hold my hand in place. “Nankeen.” The word slides out of their parted moist lips as well as a sigh of contentment. “I'm going to guess that means warm. All Aphroditian's skin runs warm.” Minutes go by as we stay silently like this.
