As soon as Layla and Jake get to the border, he asks her.
"You want to ride on my back or do you want to shift?"
"What do you think?"
He laughs and kisses her forehead, knowing that the memory of her condition is already far behind her, while it is firmly burned in his memories and will take much longer for him to get past.
"Of course, what was I even thinking?"
Layla has spoken about shifting since the first time he met her. He just kind of wanted her to ride on his back one last time, but he is equally excited to see her wolf. His wolf is about to lose the plot at the thought.
Layla was there for Jake's first shift, Jake is here for Layla's first shift. He feels so fortunate to share all his important firsts with Layla.
