Coming down from the North of Mesopotamia, Logan received a text on his isekai phone from Hakim.
It was always great to hear the team successfully beat a number of missions. Though he found it strange they were playing with the Paragon Sisters. Logan always hated that man they called a team leader. They knew each other since early middle school and always fought. It has been a while since they last scuffled, but it was of no importance. None of it was.
Logan walked through the ruins, approaching a bridge. His sights were set upon a level 5 bridge. A challenge of strength and courage. He stood shaking his arms and legs. After a few hops, he ensured his light armor was tightly fastened.
The rules were clear, permitting only melee weapons, armor, and no magic into battle. Ironically, he found it to be easier than his story mission. Or at least, so he thought.
After stabbing two assassin blades into the ground, Logan yelled, "Gilgamesh"!
His voice echoed through the land like a gladiator calling for revenge. He fought hard to get there. Faced many tough opponents. None were as strong as the man himself.
The Mesopotamia Bridge quaked as though its foundation was destroyed. The dust brushing Logan's face didn't break his focus. If he wanted to make it to pro, he needed this power.
Dust blew away, revealing the Mesopotamia Bridge clearly. A man stood firm at 8-feet. His size was more intimidating than his royal armor. Hair flowed down his back like a true image of a god. But it was the long-thick beard that captured most men's hearts.
With his two blades, sprinted towards Gilgamesh.
"Halt," commanded Gilgamesh. "Young boy, I see your conquest for power. It mirrors my own search for eternal life. I warn you, it will lead to a dark path".
"Look," said Logan, "You yourself know how short and precious life is. That's why it's important to live it to the fullest. YOLO".
"I acknowledge this. It was foolish of me to ever fight against it. However, it was only in my friendship with Enkidu that I felt truly happy and created my everlasting legacy among the people. Here I am, centuries later, a living legacy".
Logan sneered at the great man, "Hypocrite. You were born special and gifted by gods more than once. You have no place to tell another not to pursue power to achieve their dreams".
Gilgamesh smirked, "Never would I tell any man nor woman not to embrace their dreams".
Further, held out his long-thick blade towards Logan.
Logan dashed forward, but the gap between them closed in an instant when Gilgamesh launched himself. He swung his blade at Logan, who ducked under.
Logan spun around to stab Gilgamesh just to be welcomed with a downswing of his blade. Logan jumped away as Gilgamesh kept swinging his sword.
Gilgamesh swung into a unique hold of the two assassin blades. His blade tore Logan away, granting him the ability to continue his onslaught.
Logan kept coming in range, parrying each strike. His unique hold of the two assassin blades allowed Logan to reduce the force of Gilgamesh's swings.
Effort was minimal on Gilgamesh's end. Logan continued parrying each strike and leaped downward for a counter. His blade came close to the man's leg. Until it kicked his face back in a flash.
Black and blue was his vision. But instinct led Logan well to hold his blades firmly in front. Gilgamesh's blade was caught, slamming Logan's blades into his own chest armor.
As the sword pressed into him, Logan kicked it to push himself away. Gilgamesh slammed the blade into him again, catching Logan in the ground. Logan repeated the maneuver again and again after each attempt until he got out of reach of the sword.
Standing back, Logan's body ached.
The great king sliced his sword across at Logan. He barely managed to block the strike and was sent flying.
It felt like maybe a split second before Gilgamesh would slice into him again. Logan's forearms were growing tired. Even his blades had dents from the strikes.
On the next strike, Logan pushed the blade further out in its swing. He flung his 2nd blade at Gilgamesh's face.
The large blade was already swinging back. Logan jumped forward and curved at an angle. The blade barely grazed him. Logan used his sword to slide over the sword while throwing a hidden dagger at Gilgamesh's head.
A quick nod was all it took to allow the dagger to fly past. Logan stuck his blade down, lightly slicing Gilgamesh's wrist. That same sword-wielding wrist slammed down into Logan.
As he was falling, Logan managed to lightly cut into Gilgamesh's leg just before he was impaled by the oversized sword.
The effects showed blood spewing from the center of his torso. But it didn't match the real pain in his spine nor oxygen that vomited along with saliva from his mouth.
Gilgamesh flipped the blade out, sheathing it on his back. He watched as Logan's eyes teared red. Logan squirmed on the ground, barely able to move much less speak.
Using his foot, Gilgamesh rolled Logan to his back. The sun blinded Logan. Or perhaps it was the tears in his eyes that blinded him. Yet, he still saw the faint image of his opponent standing above him.
"How... did I... do?" asked Logan.
"You fought well. You have quite the potential to be a great warrior. Heed my warning Logan, the path you're on is a dark one which only entails death to you and the future".
"But did I pass?" coughed Logan staring at the faint image of Gilgamesh.
Gilgamesh evaluated Logan's performance. He survived a little over 4-minutes and landed 2 small wounds. In that entire time, there was only one moment of cowardice where Logan refused to give it his all. This led to the perfect gift of power. He created light in his palms that flew into Logan's wound, bestowing him a power.
"I will give you power under one condition. You must use it only for your friends, or else the consequences will be dire".
Logan laughed. He genuinely laughed in such a sinister manner that Gilgamesh compared to Nergal.
"Is that it?" he laughed.
In his sympathy, Gilgamesh knelt down by Logan's head.
Logan's laugh began trembling as his gifter brushed his grey hair.
"My boy, I pray for your salvation. Only time will deliver you to your ways".
Logan laughed once more, "All I intend to do is help my friends become pros".
