It was Elena, standing at the doorway of Xavier's study room with a look of surprise on her face. Her gaze locked onto mine, and I felt an intensity in her stare that sent a chill down my spine. It was as though she recognized me, though she had never met Anna before.
As Elena's eyes darted between me and Xavier, she asked, "Xavier, who is she?"
Xavier stood up from his chair and walked over to Elena, wrapping an arm around her shoulders possessively. "Elena, this is Anna. She's a dear friend and she has been helping me with the engagement preparations."
Her eyes narrowed slightly, and I could sense a hint of suspicion in her demeanor. "I've never heard of you before," she said, crossing her arms over her chest. "Why are you involved in this?"
