I had agreed to go shopping with Mary, but I still needed to tidy up the papers that were on my desk. I did not expect I would be returning. I had done more than enough for the day. That's when I found it. The letter was tucked inside a folder labeled Border Disputes.
It wasn't hidden. It was just folded and shoved between two reports, like someone had put it there quickly and forgotten about it. The folder had accidentally made its way to me, and I was curious. I pulled it out and unfolded it.
And my blood went cold once I was done reading it. "Iris?" Mary's voice was quiet. "What is it? You look pale." I couldn't speak and I just handed her the letter.
"He wants you," she whispered once she was done. "Kerian wants you."
