The following morning, I had something that I wanted to do but I was getting cold feet.
I stood at the front door for a full five minutes with my coat half on, telling myself that Virginia probably did not want company and that she was busy. It was the day before the challenge and it was not the time to show up uninvited at someone's office and ask to talk. Regardless I psyched myself up and left. The pack offices were a ten-minute drive and I knew I would find Virginia there. Ronan had told me she was an early riser, preferring to get her work done when it was quiet.
Virginia was sitting behind her desk, straightening a stack of papers. She looked up when I knocked and she took me in and then she laughed. "I cannot believe they sent you," she said.
