It's the Start of You and Me

553 Words
Mia's POV Today... I decided to step out of my room and see the sunlight. It's glaring and somehow painful to the eyes. My parents are thrilled because I've taken the first step to see the world.  "So, darling, what do you want to eat?" My mom asks me as she places more food on my plate.  "Mom... I'm not hungry," I shake my head. I don't want to eat anymore, I'm full. The foods on the table look appetizing, but I really don't have the energy to eat.  What's taking him so long?  I keep glancing at the door, waiting for my angel. He's not around yet- Matthias. My sister's not here too, they're so close.  I take this first step... because I want to be friends with him. I want to be someone that can talk and freely laugh with him. Maybe become close to him like my sister? I wring my hands under the table, I'm so anxious.  My mom looks worried.  "What's wrong, honey? Do you need anything?" My mom implores me while she grabs my father's arm. My dad sighs and puts down his newspaper.  "She's fine, Layla," dad pats my mom's arm. "You okay, right, darling?"  "I am, daddy," I say in a timid voice. Then, I hear the sounds from the outside. It's my sister and Matthias! I feel my whole being light up, knowing that Matthias is here.  Finally!  I fix my dress, and I wear my shoes correctly. My sister runs in with Matthias in tow.  "Matthias, let's eat," my mother grabs Matthias to the table.  "Come, princess!" While my father gestures for my sister to eat. "We made your favorite, honey. I told the housekeeper to make it for you. It's waffle time!"  "Thank you, daddy. You're the best!" My sister hugs my dad. My head sinks lower when I notice their interaction. My daddy has never been this warm to me. I look at my mom, and she's watching me intimately even though she's talking to Matthias.  Then, Matthia's eyes land to mine. I blink, feeling my face heats up. The urge to hide under the table is powerful. I want to hide to not let him see me.  "Auntie..." Matthias' inquiring voice made my heart beat faster. "Who is that?  "That's my little sister," Lea replies. She's sitting beside me. "She's the one who stays at the second-floor building."  "Oh, hi! Little sister!" Matthias greets me. Little sister? I like the sound of it... but I don't want him to call me by my name.  "It's Mia. You...c-can call me M-mia," I hate it when I stutter. I hate my inability to talk to other people.  "Hello, Mia. How are you?" Matthias asks me as he smiles so wonderfully to me. The way he smiles... it's even more beautiful up close.  "She's my little sister. You can't call her that," Lea announces as she pouts at Matthias. "She's mine alone. Go and find your own little sister."  Everyone laughed when they heard Lea's statement. I smile timidly. Lea and I are very close. She always plays with me. She's the best sister ever! "Anyway, eat! Eat more," my mom interrupts. I eat another piece of pancake.  During this time, I didn't know that this will be the start of something else.
