76. Butterfly

Rose trusted the man standing next to her with every fiber of her being, even though her brain knew without a shred of doubt how dangerous he could be. And yet, all she felt as he slipped a necklace around her neck was pure unadulterated desire. Get your head out of the gutter, woman, she told herself with an inward groan. His feather-like touches were not quite a caress, but he lingered enough to make her feel undeniably disturbing heat. “You can open your eyes now,” he commanded after a beat. She did so slowly, taking in everything at her own pace. The lights, the banners, the cheerful smiles and lively chatter… and finally, she felt the necklace in her hand. She hurried to unlock her phone, and before long caught sight of the beautiful butterfly pendant, shining in silver.
