The moment the door closed shut behind Darius, I knew he wasn’t going to call the doctor.
He needed a moment.
A moment to break where I couldn’t see him.
Where i wouldn't see him at all.
I swallowed hard, my throat stinging as the tears I’d been holding back finally began to spill out.
God… why did everything hurt so much? My stomach ached, yes—but that wasn’t the pain making me cry right now.
It was my heart.
My heart ached so bad and I didn't know what to do.
How could I have been so stupid?
Why did I believe a message from my mother asking me to meet in the middle of the day when I knew she'd be at work?
Why didn't I turn back and leave when no one answered the door? Why did I have to go up the stairs?
