POV: Adriana I took a slow breath as I stood in the closet, pulling on my jeans. The fabric felt soft, warm from the sunlight pouring through the tall windows. My simple white T-shirt followed next, and as I smoothed it down, I caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror. I looked… lighter. Refreshed. Happier. There’s a lot guilt can do to a person, and I’d carried mine long enough. I wasn’t doing that anymore. Not today. Not ever again. The clock on the wall read a little past 11 a.m. I put my hair into a loose ponytail just as footsteps approached from behind me. Darius stepped into the closet, his presence filling the space instantly. He leaned in and placed a soft kiss on my cheek. He had finished dressing up before me and had stepped out for a call. “I have to go,” he murmured.
