I closed the door behind me, the sound of it sealing heavier than any lock I could conjure.
For once, I’d thought the day might end on a good note—despite how disastrously it began. I’d seen her smile for the first time.
I know it will take time for her to let go of her hatred, but after Heartwild, I’d hoped she might at least begin to tolerate me… maybe even stop trying to escape every chance she gets.
I should’ve let the day end there.
I’d planned to tell her about the green robe—eventually. When she was calmer. When she no longer flinched every time I drew near. But not tonight. Not after she’d just begun to breathe freely.
