A couple of hours later, I stood near the eastern border waiting for the patrol change when I saw Aria approaching with her team. She walked with confidence now, like she actually belonged in a leadership position. It made me sick.
"Daniel," Aria called out as she reached my position. "I did not expect to see you here today."
"I decided to join the patrol rotation," I said. "Make sure our borders are properly protected."
