The siege begins

(Magnus) I watch Daniel and Ashley enter my strategy room and already I can see the tension between them. Daniel looks like he hasn't slept. Ashley looks too calm, too controlled. Both of them are useful. Both of them are also potential problems. "Sit," I say, gesturing to the chairs across from my desk. They sit. Daniel immediately starts tapping his fingers on the armrest. Ashley sits perfectly still, her face blank. "I called this meeting because we need to discuss the next phase," I begin. "The border confrontation was entertaining, but it accomplished nothing concrete. Kael is still Alpha. Aria is still Luna. The baby is still growing." "It wasn't meant to accomplish anything," Ashley says. "It was meant to send a message." "A message that made Daniel look unhinged," I counter.
