I accepted the call. I tried to answer with a casual, light, “Hi, Mom!” but she cut me off before I could finish my short sentence. “My Natalie!” She sounded abundantly relieved, and an unpleasant mixture of unease and guilt churned in my belly. “Whatever you do, do not leave your territory tonight! Stay home with Alpha Reid! Do you understand me?” I was slightly taken aback. I suspected she’d had a vision—I couldn’t imagine any other reason she’d be calling at a time like this, as I was confident my father had filled her in about the cursed elephant.
