Madison Frost
“Get the f**k off me!” I screamed as my knee connected with his balls. I used the moment of his pain to shove him away. His teeth ripped from my flesh before he hit the floor hard. He groaned, and I gripped my shoulders to stop the bleeding as I jumped over the back of the couch.
“You b***h!” he roared.
I tried to run, but my legs gave out. I crawled to the front door to escape him. He was crazy, and I had no doubt he would kill me. I shrieked when he gripped my ankle, and I clawed at the floor, desperately trying to get away.
“Stop, please,” I gasped as he flipped me on my back, knocking the air from my lungs. The force of his palm against my cheek whipped my head to the side. My face throbbed with fury, and tears clouded my vision.
“You are mine!” He sneered, leaning over my body. His aura rolled out in angry waves as he glared down at me.
I whimpered, shaking my head. I would never be his again.
“If you want the charges against your father dropped, you will do what I say, Madds,” he threatened.
“What?” I stammered.
“You fuckin’ heard me,” he barked. “Your father owes the pack all the money he stole, and you will pay back his debt.”
“He would never do that! What the hell did you do?” I demanded, my hands clenched tightly.
He smirked, pulling me up by my shirt. He squatted down over my hips, grabbing my face in a punishing grip.
“Pay back the two million dollars or agree to be my mistress. It’s your choice. We can do this the easy way or the hard way, baby, but you will never leave me. You’re mine,” he growled.
Pushing me back, he stormed out of the house before my head could hit the floor. I jumped when the door slammed shut behind him. A sob escaped, and my body trembled on the hardwood floor.
“f**k!” I cried, slamming my fists on the floor.
Topaz whined.
“What the hell are we going to do?” She whimpered in response.
There was nothing I could do. Where the hell could I get that kind of money? Even though the charges against my father were bullshit. He would never steal anything. If he stole that kind of money, where is it?
But even if I came up with it, Scott would never let me go. He made himself clear. I would be his dirty secret. His fated mate reduced to nothing but his plaything. And no one would ever believe me over the Alpha.
I was at an impossible crossroads. The thought of being Scott’s forever, hiding in the shadows, made me sick. I was not worthy of being his Luna, but he refused to let me go. But I couldn’t run away from my only family. How could I abandon my father?
Scott would surely have him killed,
“What do I do?” I whispered into the empty space, feeling a sense of hopelessness.
Scott took everything from me, and now I was stuck between a rock and a hard place.
I sat up and winced when I touched my shoulder. I sent a prayer to the Moon Goddess, begging her not to let it scar. She could at least do that for me after everything I’ve endured.
A giggle bubbled up through the sobs. My entire existence has been one long, cruel joke after another.
My mother died in a rogue attack when she was eight months pregnant with me. My father had to rip me from her dying body. He lost his fated mate and gained a useless daughter. He should have let me die with her. And now, the only person who has ever loved me will probably die at the hands of my mate.
I let out a humourless laugh as I sat on the floor with nothing else to lose. This had to be rock bottom.
I quickly turned when the door was thrown open. I half expected it to be Scott to finish me off, but it was his beta and best friend, Kane.
“Get up!” he commanded. “You have one hour to pack your s**t and get out.”
“What?” I gasped. “This is my house.”
“The pack is reclaiming the house. Now, grab your s**t and get out.” He pointed an angry finger at me as he glared, before storming out.
I sat on the floor, stunned. Now, he wants my home. Is this the part where his beta kidnaps me, and they lock me up and throw away the key?
I had to get out of here before that happened. I have to find a way to save my father and to get us away from this pack before it kills us.
With a renewed sense of self-purpose, I got up and rushed upstairs to my room. I packed everything I couldn’t live without before going into my father’s room. I grabbed everything that belonged to my mother. Everything else could be replaced.
When three bags were stuffed full, I took them out to my father’s old pickup truck. It was nothing fancy, but it was his and it worked. I opened the cab and tossed the bags in. A few warriors were standing around—men whom I had trained with. I was a member of their pack. Packs were supposed to protect their own. But I felt no sense of belonging with these wolves.
Ignoring the stares, I went back into the house and into the kitchen to pack some food. I was going somewhere safe, but I didn’t know how long I would be there. I also didn’t have much money in my account, and I’m sure Scott had my father’s account frozen.
I gathered a few boxes of food before searching the house for any cash my father might have stashed around. I managed to find close to a thousand dollars, but I would have to find a job in the neutral zone. Stuffing the money in an empty jar, I carried the boxes out to the truck, placing them in the box.
“Are you almost done? How much crap can two people have?” Beta Kane snapped impatiently.
I wanted to clap back, but I held my tongue. Getting myself killed wouldn’t save my father.
Ignoring him and the other warriors, I went into the shed and pulled out some of the camping supplies. I didn’t have money to waste on a hotel. Instead, I would go to the spot my father showed me in the neutral zone.
I was panting by the time I had finished loading everything, but I didn’t stop. I checked the house one more time before getting behind the wheel of the truck. The tires sent rocks flying as I hit the gas and took off.
I didn’t have time to change and was still wearing my bloody clothes. I haven’t even checked on the wound on my shoulder. I didn’t want to stay there any longer than necessary. That pack and those wolves were never my family. They threw me under the bus at the first opportunity. No one would dare challenge the alpha, so I was on my own.
Topaz howled in my head.
“I won’t let him get away with this,” I growled, my knuckles turning white as I gripped the steering wheel. I will free my father, even if I have to kill the alpha.
