Third Person
Kane didn’t understand why his alpha and best friend could do this to his fated mate, of all people. Madison Frost was supposed to be their Luna, but Kane was commanded not to say a word. Which he believed wasn’t right, and without the command, he would have warned her. He and his wolf were loyal to pack life, something his mother always taught him, before her untimely death.
He pleaded with Scott to go to the council and to mark Madison. The Wolf Council would have forced his father to step down as alpha and to appoint Scott as his successor. He didn’t have to give her up for the pack. He could have had both.
But instead of listening to him, Kane was at the Gamma’s house, forcing the alpha’s fated mate to leave. He was angry that he couldn’t tell her the truth, and he was furious with Scott for forcing him to betray his Luna.
Madison may be rough around the edges, but she was strong and, most importantly, caring. She was sweet, and she may not have had the confidence of a Luna yet, but she would. He had faith in her. They had gone to school together, and Kane admired her for her ability to be comfortable being alone. She didn’t give in to the pressures of being popular. She was smart and strong. Kane had seen firsthand how well she trained. She would have been an excellent Luna, but there was no chance of her forgiving Scott now, not after everything he had done.
His wolf whimpered, pleading with him to help his Luna. But he couldn’t disobey an alpha command.
The warriors and beta stood around, unable to help, as Madison packed up her life. Scott wanted her to hit rock bottom so she would have no choice but to agree to his demands. Kane thought the plan was cruel. He could have had it all if he had just listened. Alpha Simon only wanted power, and he was using his son to force the Alpha of the Grimm Mountain Pack. The move was bullshit. Power wasn’t a reason to give up your soul mate. Alpha Simon never would have given up his mate.
The thought turned Kane’s stomach. He hasn’t found his mate yet, but he knows he could never reject her. Even if she were only an omega, he would love and cherish her.
Madison got into the truck, slamming the door. She didn’t look back as she burnt rubber, speeding away from the house. Kane groaned and rubbed his forehead when a flying pebble hit his head.
“What now, Beta Kane?” A warrior asked him as he watched Madison drive away.
“Get back to your posts. This matter is cleared up,” Kane ordered. He could feel their hesitation, but they didn’t voice it. No one could go against their alpha, but they all felt something was wrong with the situation. Gamma Max Frost would never do what he was being accused of.
“It’s done,” Beta Kane mind-linked Alpha Scott.
“Good,” the alpha responded. “With her accounts frozen and her name blacklisted. I give her a week to come running back.”
Kane’s skin crawled, and he kept his mouth shut as he clutched his fists.
“I’m with Rae today. Head to the office and handle the pack,” Alpha Scott ordered.
“Yes, alpha,” he confirmed before closing the link.
Kane had prayed to the Moon Goddess that his childhood friend would come to his senses before the damage was irreversible, but his prayers had been left unanswered. For six months, he had been forced to lie and hide the truth from both women and Alpha Grimm.
Madison made it easy, as she never suspected anything. She was simple, with no social media or interests in anything Raelyn was interested in. There was no chance of them running into each other in the neutral city.
His stomach dropped, and the uneasiness grew. This wouldn’t end well for the Cypress Ridge Pack.
Meanwhile, Ryan had just arrived at training. He was frantically looking around his friends, hoping to see Madison. She had never missed training, and this was the only way he could see her without interfering with Alpha Scott’s command.
“Ryan!” Dean exclaimed, clasping his shoulder. “How was Madison? I bet she was spicy,” he chuckled. Some of the others gasped.
“Dean, shut up,” he snapped, shoving him. Ryan was about to lose it. He has been worried about his friend all night, unable to sleep.
“Dude, what the f**k is your problem?” Dean retorted, stumbling back. “We saw you rush after her. You can deny it all you want, but there must be something going on between the two of you. Why else would you be friends with her?” He questioned, and Ryan growled, fist clenched.
“Madds, is a good person, and you lot would know that if you took your heads out of your ass,” Ryan defended.
“What are you in love with her?” Dean taunted. “Is she your mate, and you are just too ashamed to admit it?”
Ryan swung but missed as other warriors held him back, and Dean dodged.
“f**k you!” Ryan shouted. He couldn’t explain even if he wanted to, but at least he could do was defend Madison. She didn’t deserve what their bastard alpha did to her.
Jacob stepped between them. “Enough,” he demanded. “Ryan, what the hell happened when you left the celebration?”
Ryan shook off the two warriors gripping his shoulders. What the hell was he supposed to say? He stammered.
“Does it have anything to do with what happened this morning?” Jacob asked him.
“What are you talking about? What happened this morning?” Ryan questioned, and Jacob sighed.
“Gamma Frost was arrested on charges of embezzlement.”
“What?!” Ryan roared.
He was heaving as his thoughts ran wild. This wasn’t a coincidence. Alpha Scott must have planned this to force Madison’s hand. She would never let anything happen to her father.
“It all happened this morning. Beta Kane was there after to kick Madison out of the house. That’s what my older brother said,” Jacob shrugged. “Do you know what happened?”
Ryan couldn’t risk saying a word about what happened.
“I didn’t find her last night,” he exhaled, lying since he couldn’t explain what had actually happened.
Jacob gave his friend a look that said he didn’t believe him. Something must have happened. Ryan had always been protective of Madison, but this was over the top, even for him. The warriors would tease him since Ryan was the only one who could ever get close to her.
“Men, that’s enough,” Gamma Turner called out as he entered the training field.
The warriors started their run, and Ryan made a mental note to text Madison. He was warned to stay away from her, but he still made sure she was okay. Alpha Scott may have had his reasons for what he did to his fated mate, but Ryan would never understand. He would do his best to protect her from afar.
