Chapter Nine The night air is colder than I expect. I tug my jacket tighter as I step off campus, the last students drifting toward dorms or bars, voices thinning into the distance. My bag is heavy on my shoulder, but not nearly as heavy as my thoughts. I tell myself I stayed at the library late because of homework. The truth is, time slipped away from me while I thought about the absurdity of what my life's become and struggled to focus on coursework. I've got a pretty good head on my shoulders, so coursework thus far hasn't been too challenging, but with my classload, I can't afford to be distracted and slack. I can't stop thinking about William.
