Though the celebration is meant to be a happy event, to welcome their new King and Queen, both Samuel and Laura had solemn expressions on their faces. That is, until a council member asked them to at least smile and assure the people that they’re accepting their new roles as rulers of the kingdom.
The ceremony proceeded. They took their oaths. Their new titles were announced and the crowns were set on their heads. When they stood to face the people, they clapped and cheered.
Both of them took deep breaths before looking at each other. Even until yesterday, Sam was busy dealing with affairs of the kingdom. He held her hand and squeezed it. Her smile turned genuine, reaching her eyes.
