Everyone froze, looking at Lyra in surprise. The crying girl sounded so steadfast as she said, “I believe he’s been poisoned.”
The word cut through the air like a blade. Kade felt a flicker of surprise that she’d figured it out. As Merrow began cheating during the Alpha challenge, Kade had done his best to deflect the crossbow bolts his men were firing from the tunnels lining the wall of the arena.
The crossbow bolts were almost imperceptible to the crowd, but that did not diminish their potency. Kade wished he could tell Lyra she was right. Unfortunately, his body wasn’t his own. He was surprised he could even still hear her.
