Stepping into the hospital tent, Lyra took pause. Nesrin’s men carried Kade in, and the whole room seemed to clear for him before swarming around him. Lyra’s mind was transported back to another life, a life of cold stone and hard-coated compassion. The massive tent should have felt open and breathable compared to her modest infirmary back in Iron Claw. The sheer height of the canvas above them should have made the space feel vast. It should not have felt like a storm rolling in to suffocate everyone in its path. Mara had made sure their infirmary ran with quiet urgency and practiced calm.
