Chapter 5 - Possibility

1476 Words
Roger I love Angie even when she is intense and a bit of a drama queen. She has been distraught with Mat because he has appointed me to mediate between humans and supernaturals. I am capable enough to do a good job, and I understand her concern. I hope she sees I am doing this to have a future with her. If we cannot work something out, it will be harder to be together. Our relationship will be forbidden, and we will have to hide to be together. The only thing I am sure about is that I no longer want to hide my feelings for her. My phone rang, and I was not surprised to see Matei D´Angelo, the king of Central City, calling me at this odd hour of the night. “Hello, Matei...” I answered, and he sighed. “Roger... Good night...” Mat said, and I took a deep breath. I was certain Angie would throw a tantrum, and maybe Matei would reconsider my appointment. “Angie is throwing a tantrum...” I said matter-of-factly, and he sighed. “Yes, she is distraught with me and Dad...” he said, and I chuckled. “Do you want me to step down for your sanity?” I asked him. I didn´t want to step down. I knew I could do this and felt confident I could get the expected results. Also, I wanted to do it. It was a stand for my future, Angie. “No...” he said in a solemn voice, “I believe you are the man for the job, but my sister is a real pain in my ass.” He sighed, and I chuckled. “Alright, so I will help you. I am one of the most interested in solving the issues with humans and supernaturals. I don´t want to get caught in the middle, being forced to hide my relationship with your sister,” I said, and he chuckled. “So, it is official now...” he said, and I gulped. I had spoken too much to the wrong audience. “Until the Moon Ball, which won´t happen if we go to war... so there you have it, there is so much at stake...” I said, and he chuckled. “Good luck with the Drama Queen. I am sure you will handle her just fine, but she sometimes is too much.” Mat said, and I chuckled. “I am sure Iris is also a handful,” I said, and he chuckled. “She is... You are right,” he laughed, and I chuckled. Humans don´t have mates. We meet a woman, get to know her, and risk our hearts in the process to happiness... but with supernaturals, their goddess makes the heavy lifting and pairs them with a mate bond. Each partner is precisely what the other needs. As a human, I don´t feel the bond per se, but I feel an intense attraction towards Angie, and she told me that she believes us to be mates. The Lycan tradition indicates that during the Moon Ball, every mate bond gets blessed by the Moon Goddess, and until then, we will know with certainty. “Anyway, let me meet her...” I sighed, knowing she was all over the place the last time I saw her. I understand all of this is coming from a place of fear; she is afraid I am taking more significant risks than she believes are necessary, but I have this need to protect her, protect our love, and prove to her I am worthy of her love. “Good luck with that one. I called to check on you and see if you were still up for the task.” Mat said, and I chuckled. “I am, and I hope Angie will eventually support this endeavor,” I said, and he chuckled. “Once again, Roger... Thanks so much for everything. You have already risked your neck for us a couple of times; I hope this thing becomes less risky than the others.” Mat said, and I chuckled. “Let´s hope s**t won´t hit the fan...” I laughed, and with that, we finished the call. I took a deep breath and dialed Angie´s number. I knew she was pissed at me, and I needed to fix it. The phone rang once, twice, thrice, and then went to voicemail. Shit she is dismissing me, and I don´t know what I can do to make her understand. I grunted, and soon my phone rang back. “Hey, Angs...” I picked up the phone, and she sighed on the other side. “I need to talk to you... You didn´t allow me to explain why I said yes...” I said in one go, not giving her a chance to protest. She sighed and only said, “I´m listening...” This was my chance to tell her everything I needed to say to plead my case. It was a matter of principle and our future survival as a couple and maybe as a family. Damn! Having my own family sounds more than appealing when you put Angie in that equation. My entire body feels attuned with the little minx. “Look, I am not going to be reckless, nor am I looking to get in the middle of a conflict. I know I count on your brother´s support, and mainly, I want to solve the issues between humans and supernaturals because I want to have a happy, peaceful life with you. I want to have a family with you and our kids so that they can be safe in both realms...” I said, and I only heard her gasp. “You have never talked to me about becoming a family with me...” she mumbled, and I chuckled. “Don´t be silly, little minx. Why would I be around you if it were not to form a family and be happy with you?” I chuckled, and she sighed. “Elisa said that I should get my head out of my ass...” she said, and I chuckled. “Maybe, Elisa is being wise.” I joked, “Don´t be silly... I never had my head up on my ass...” She protested, and I laughed. “So, are we cool?” I asked her, and she sighed. “Yes, we are, but I want you to be careful, and you must promise me to tell me if Mat leaves you alone when things get risky. I will kick his ass if he doesn´t step up for you, " she said, and I laughed. “Deal,” I said, and she took a deep breath. “Now, tell me... when can I see you?” I asked her, and she remained quiet for a little while. “I can sneak out...” she said, and I smirked. To her parents, Angie was a little princess incapable of breaking the rules, a drama queen who would always get her way. But for me, she was a woman who would break every rule to be with me. “Same place?” I asked her, and she giggled. “Our place...” she said, and I chuckled. I was already in the cabin. She left with her drama and big tantrum, but I stayed there. I wanted to figure things out with her, and I knew we would see each other here when we got things worked out, so I saved myself the trouble. “I´ll be waiting here for you,” I said, and she finished the call. I knew that eventually, we would work things out. Angie and I are meant to be. I know this not becuase I feel a bond like her, but because I will make sure every waking moment of my life is with her. She might not know it yet, but I am irrevocably and deeply in love with her. I have tried to fight the feeling because of our age difference, but even though she is way younger than I, I couldn´t help but feel attracted to her. Angela D´Angelo, the Lycan princess who stole my heart when she greeted me years ago. She was merely a kid, and I was a young man overcoming the trauma of my upbringing and shortcomings. Time has passed, and we have been toying with the idea of us being together until now, when the concept is not a mere figment of our imaginations but a possibility, and I can´t wait for what the future holds.
