Chapter 8 : A Worthy Alpha

A Worthy Alpha

The three-headed creature let out an earth-shaking growl when it saw the intruders. Merlin stood quite like a statue, unable to move. Cami, on the other hand, could hear her own heart beat and was trying very hard not to faint from fear. Both Jonah and Ariana stood in the frames of other heads of the beast.

Merlin was about to run but Jonah stopped him.

" Don't move " Jonah shouted.

" What ? " Merlin yelled.

" Yes, you heard me right. Do not move ", Jonah said. Merlin looked at Jonah and he saw he was actually serious. He decided to put his trust in his new friend and stood still.

" Everyone do not move, not even a step. This type of creature is called Cerebreus, a sort of guard in Greek mythology. They are very obedient to their masters. They are very proud creatures, so all we can do right now is submit to him, because trust me, he can run faster than any of us ", Jonah Said said, explaining everything.

" So all we do is just stand up here " Merlin asked.

" Yes, not just stand, more like submit to him, like pretend he is our Alpha right now ", Ariana said.

All of them stood quiet. The creature looked at everyone of them, as if he was assessing them. After a few minutes, he sat up and went to sleep. Both Merlin and Cami looked at each other. When everyone was sure the creature was asleep and it wouldn't harm them, they started walking quietly again.

" Wait " Cami said, stopping everyone from walking another step.

" What now " Merlin asked annoyedly.

" See this " Cami said, pointing towards the floor. All of them looked below, seeing the floor, which was decorated like a piece of chess board.

" See this " Ariana said, pointing towards the sculptures on the wall.

" Yeah, I am seeing it " Jonah said, nodding his head.

" But I am not ", Merlin said in a very frustrating voice.

" Watch this " Cami said and set her foot on one of the white floors and right on cue an arrow came out from one of the sculptures and hit the opposite wall.

" Woah " Merlin said.

" One wrong step and we will be toast " Cami said. All of them started searching for any clues or anything that could help them pass this.

Meanwhile, the Current Alphas and their Lunas were watching all this. Alpha Benjamin was feeling nothing but proud when he saw his daughter and the warrior from his pack taking things seriously. All of the neighboring Alphas complimented Jonah and Cami for their presence of mind. They also admired how Ariana valued others' opinions and suggestions, like a true Alpha.

" Yess " Cami yelled loudly when she figured out the puzzle.

" It's a game, a simple game " Cami said.

Ariana looked again and now she also got what her friend was talking about. Both of them explained to Jonah and Merlin everything.

" Are you sure " Jonah asked.

" Yes I am " Cami said and both she and Ariana stepped in together into the middle of the black tile.

" Now " Ariana yelled and both of them jumped towards the corner in the second row. As they expected, this puzzle was a children's game, all you have to do is jump from middle to corner and then again to the middle of the next row. As soon as both Ariana and Cami crossed it, Merlin and Jonah stepped forward and did what they saw. All of them started walking again. After what seemed like an enternity they finally saw some rays of sunshine.

" Hey, look, that must be the door to the outside " Merlin excitedly said, pointing towards the door.

" Finally ", Cami said happily, but her happiness died very soon as, out of nowhere, a group of zombies came forward.

" Seriously Zombies ", Jonah said annoyedly.

" Guys aim for the head ", Ariana said and stepped forward.

Soon every one of them was engaged in a battle with a group of life-less and mind-less Zombies. Those Zombies had weapons on them, which was a disadvantage for the team, but soon Ariana managed to secure one sword and one middle-sized knife. She gave the sword to Cami and the knife to Merlin. Jonah managed to secure a sword for himself. Ariana yelled loudly as she managed to flip over a zombie and then took its sword. All four of them were against about two dozen Zombies.

" Jonah, can you pass through these Zombies and hold the door long enough for us to go through " Ariana asked Jonah.

" Yeah, I can do that, no big deal " Jonah said.

" After Jonah opens the door, I want you to take Merlin and go ", Ariana said, pointing towards Cami.

" Copy that " Cami said.

As planned, Jonah ran fast enough through the swarm of Zombies and decapitated the heads of those who got in his way and opened the door.

Both Cami and Merlin had a hard time passing them but Ariana got their backs. Once both Cami and Merlin were out of sight, both Ariana and Jonah went through the door. Jonah locked the door from outside and all of them panted very hard, trying to catch some air.

" Damn, that was good " Jonah said, panting.

" Yeah yeah " Ariana said, trying to catch her breath. Soon they heard a round of applause and when they looked around they were already on the outside. Ariana looked at her father, who was smiling proudly.

" Congratulations to Team A for finishing first ", their proctor Nina Martin said. All of them were feeling nothing but happiness. Soon, the neighboring Alphas started to cheer and compliment them. They all admired everyone's wisdom and noticed Ariana's qualities as a leader.

" She is ready now, ready and worthy of being an Alpha ", Alpha Benjamin thought in his head while looking at his princess.
