The line was silent, I knew I went too far. Even if she suspected there were ‘others’ as she put it, it was too much to say that they were real. That I believed in them, that I was dating one of them.
“Since when did you get a new boyfriend?” She asked after the longest few seconds of my life.
“Long story, but I kinda met him actually when I was dating Rodney, nothing happened until we broke up. I just liked being around him and his brother,” I shrugged, but I knew she couldn’t see the motion as it all came spilling out, “It kinda just got serious a few days ago.”
“Oh,” She breathed, “How serious?”
“He’s it, Mama.” I said the words out loud for the first time even though I knew they were true for a while now before I even admitted it to myself.
