17. The Next Day

I woke up on the trailer floor with a tingling sensation and Jakob all around me. Even waking up on the hard cold floor brought me joy because we were next to each other. I felt so much love for him. He opened up to me last night about the most terrible moment of his entire life. As only a child, he had to stand there watching his parents tortured and killed. All I wanted to do was to protect him, take away any pain from him, make him happy, and never experience any sadness ever again. My heart was full of love for him. I felt like I was going to explode. It was hard to contain my emotions. I kissed him on his forehead, and he stirred awake. He immediately embraced me in his giant arms and brought me close to his chest. I could feel and hear his heart beating. I wanted him so much that I wanted to never be forced to be apart. We started to kiss and caress each other. I was rubbing his face, his hair, kissing him everywhere. He reached to kiss my neck, his hands were getting under my shirt, and my body was singing, asking for more touches from him. Then, suddenly, there was a knock on the door. "Sabrina, are you here," I heard Maria's voice. As we sprang to our feet, a peculiar sensation stirred in the pit of my stomach. Jakob opened the door for Maria. "I don't want you to be late, Sabrina," she said in a motherly voice. "Run to my trailer and get ready and wash Jakob's smell of yourself as much as possible," she told me. I kissed Jakob goodbye and ran to Maria's trailer. I got ready quickly, so we could set off for the mansion. In the mansion, Jessika was her usual self. She gave me all the dirtiest tasks she could find: toilets, garbage, washing dishes in the kitchen. I was used to it, and my mind was filled with thoughts about Jakob and the pack. My heart went out to all those who had to endure such living conditions, and to those who had to witness the torture and execution of their loved ones and dear friends. I wished I could tell Maria how grateful I was for her taking me in as her own daughter and taking care of me. I wish I could tell her how sorry I am for her loss. I was grateful to every girl who spent time with me yesterday, simply hanging out. I wanted to do something for them. I wanted to make a difference. I wanted to help them escape this horrible fate of living under master's rule. There was this whole world of freedom out there while they were locked on this island, isolated, tortured, and killed for no reason or made to serve their terrible masters. I decided to see if I could find out more about the device that controlled the collar or try to find something more. I went to Mr. Jules' daughter's room and knocked. "Who is this" I heard the muffled voice of Rebecca. I knocked again as I could not say anything. "Okay, just come in," she said. I went into her room. She was all alone, her face was all puffy, and she was lying in bed crying. I tried to sign to her if she could make me talk. "I am sorry," she said through tears. "I can't help you. Seth took the device from Dad's office and would not return it". Oh yeah, I remember that. I was hoping maybe they had another device, but I guess not. I was desperate to talk to her. I made a sign pretending to write. "Of course, this is brilliant," she said and rolled out of her bed. She went to her desk and gave me stickies and a pen. I wrote to her. "Why are you crying?" She started to sob more and eventually was able to talk "Dad took Caleb away," and she cried again. I went over carefully, offering a hug with my hands, as I didn't know if she would find me offensive. But she was glad. She almost jumped on me and started sobbing over my clothes. Then she must have seen my confusion, and she continued: "Caleb was the boy you saw here. He was not my boy toy, nor my pet. I didn't glamour him. I loved him, and he loved me back," she continued crying. "I don't know if Seth or someone else told on me, but dad must have figured it out and took him away. I don't even know if he is alive", she continued to sob. I hugged her again. "I wish I could just run with him, leave this wretched island behind," she kept sobbing. "Can you leave?" I wrote on the sticky. "No, I can't leave. Dad owns the security for the whole island and never lets me leave. I tried it a few times, but the guards stopped me. I even tried getting on a friend's boat once, but they still managed to stop the boat as well. And now my dad barely lets me leave the house." "Have you ever left the island?" I wrote. "Well... a long time ago, when I was maybe ten years old, I wanted to see my mom in Australia. So, my dad sent me with two bodyguards who didn't even let me go to the bathroom without them on the way there. Then my grandparents are even worse than my dad and don't let me leave the house at all. And mom didn't really want to spend any time with me. She told me I reminded her of my dad. So, it was the worst trip ever," she said. "Mom left us when I was about five years old, right after Seth was born." I felt bad for her. Even the daughter of the all-powerful master was under his rule and could not leave the house and seemed to be crying alone there. I wonder if she had any friends. However, I was also trying to get some information about the island. "It was good talking to you for sure. Nice to have someone listen. I think I stopped crying for the first time," Rebecca told me. "Can anyone help you, or can I help?" I wrote. She shook her head. "My dad even took my phone and computer; I can't talk to any of my so-called friends. I don't know if someone figured out about Caleb and told my dad. I was so cautious. I told no one. Except he stayed in my room", she sighed... "Dad told me I am grounded now for at least a month. I just hope Caleb is alive. Dad surely glamoured him and found everything out." She said sadly. "Do you have grandparents from your father's side? Could you stay with them?" I wrote. "No, not sure what happened to grandma. I heard she died long ago, maybe in childbirth. And I also heard grandpa disappeared right after the days of collaring. So, no one really knows what happened to him." She added. I wanted to know so much more, but we heard footsteps, and I quickly hid the stickies and a pen in my pocket. "You should leave just in case. I think we both could get in trouble if dad finds out," Rebecca told me. "I am not supposed to be talking to anyone." She looked better. I was glad we chatted. I opened the door only to face Jessika. "What are you doing here?" she asked me, curiously looking around the place. "I was looking for you everywhere. Follow me" I followed her without even rolling my eyes this time. The staircase went down and down. I was praying we were not going back to the basement.
