Luckily, we turned right next to the stairs to the basement, and Jessika took me to Dr. Arthur's office.
There was a massive puddle of nasty liquid mess on the floor.
"Someone threw up all over the floor here," she said. "I figured this was the perfect job for you to clean up. When you are done, rewash the whole floor and the doctor's sink," she added and left."
It smelled disgusting. I was wondering about what had happened here.
I cleaned up everything, and when about to be done, I heard the door behind me open.
I was worried because, so far, my life was hanging by a thread in the mansion with every new encounter. I quickly turned around to see Dr. Arthur himself.
"Thanks for cleaning my office! It looks absolutely spotless."
I nodded and wanted to leave, but he blocked the door just as I was headed for it.
He did it so quickly that I bumped into him again. I started to feel all the tingling. The thoughts about his body and what I wanted to do to him were swirling in my head. I didn't know what to do with myself. I thought I was going crazy.
He grabbed my face with his cold hands and kissed me passionately. His lips were cold, it must have been a vampire quality, but my lips were burning up with desire for him. I wanted him so badly. He started to kiss my neck. He was so different, almost the opposite of Jakob but...
Oh no, Jakob. I felt like I was mesmerized and just got woken up remembering my Jakob. It was hard as I was in a daze and could not control myself, but I took a step back and shook my head.
I pulled out my sticky note and a pen.
"Why did you get me in here? What do you want from me?" I wrote.
He looked surprised.
"I had to talk to you. I tricked Jessika to get you into my office, but not to kiss you even though I enjoyed every second of it," he said.
I stared at him. I was angry. I was annoyed. Was I frustrated with him? Actually, I was more furious with myself.
"I want to help you, get you out of here. You deserve better than this life. Let me, please! I will get you away from this island before something horrible happens to you," Dr. Arthur told me.
I didn't know what to think. Of course, I wanted to escape. But after everything, I could not just leave Jakob, Maria, and everyone else here to suffer. Maybe it was a chance for me to save them? I also didn't trust him.
"Can I go to the police and help the others?" I wrote.
"No, this island is an autonomous entity, almost an independent country, so the police have no jurisdiction here. Also, it will make the vampires immediately find you and capture you. They will just glamour anyone they had to,” he finished.
I was so frustrated and confused.
"Why?" I wrote
"What do you mean?" he asked.
I wanted to ask why I felt this way about him, but I wrote
"Why are you helping me?"
"Do you not know? But, of course, you don't," he replied, talking to himself.
He looked at me and took a step forward, and I took a step backward. I quickly wrote.
"Jakob is my mate. I love him, I can't go without him," and gave it to Arthur.
Arthur looked at the note and looked at me again. He looked crushed. He sat on his doctor's chair and leaned back against the wall.
"Of course, Jakob, how blind could I be? I should have known," he looked lost. He held the sticky in his hand, staring at it. Then he started smashing it and tearing it.
"It doesn't matter," he said. "You need to leave; you are not safe here. Jakob would understand. I will even talk to him. He would want his mate to be safe, far away from here."
I shook my head and wrote, "Please do not tell him anything."
"I am not going to promise you that," Arthur replied.
"Remember that I am always here for you, no matter what. Please remember that! If you change your mind, come to this office tomorrow," he added, almost pleading.
Was I making the big mistake of not accepting his proposal?
I left his office confused and bothered at the same time. If everything I knew about mates was true and Jakob was my mate, why did I lose my head when Arthur was around? Why would Arthur risk anything trying to save me? Was it a trap? I didn't know. I could not trust myself around him.
That night, I went home to Maria. I went to bed early, thinking about Jakob and Arthur and the possibility of escaping the island.
In my dream, I was immediately drawn into the wolf's cage.
"Come to me," the wolf said.
I imagined rubbing his head like last time, and I was standing next to him. I was touching the soft hair on his head and scratching behind his ears.
"You know I am a girl, right?" the wolf asked me. "My name is Lea."
"Oh," I was surprised, but it was amazing that she was a girl, and it was so lovely talking to her this time.
"Can you help me figure out what to do?" I asked Lea. "Did I make the right choice staying here?"
"I am sure you did! Look how far you have come here. We are talking. You have found your mate and others that will be your family,” Lea replied.
"But what about my parents?"
"I have a feeling that you will join them in time, but you have work to do here. First, you need to help the pack to escape this life of slavery. But first, you need to free me!"
"Why is it me?" I asked. "I am no one. I didn't even grow up here."
"Fate brought you here and didn't let you live a regular life in the stale world. It is also destiny that you are the mate of the Alpha. He needs you. You need to make him release me, but mostly to free himself from his cage of obedience. Then we can free the pack. You are the key," she said, and I woke up.
