Well that was stupid.
I land with a thud, totally not graceful.
That was like having all your insides split into tiny pieces and moved. Then jamming them all back together again! It hurt.
I get my bearings and remove my face from the floor, that’s going to hurt tomorrow.
Jo is down next to me then, I feel her cool magic on my head. Oh yeah the burnt Hair! Just great.
Jo is a Master at healing, her water magic can not only travel for miles to find someone or spy on someone. But it heals too and packs a punch when she wants it too.
But right now, it’s cooling my wounded head. I can feel the skin knotting back together, it feels like tiny little needles all over my head and the back of my neck.
My hair starts to grow back, as Jo reverses the damage of the spell.
“Well, that was stupid! One of these day’s you’ll get into too much trouble and I won’t be able to heal you!”
Knew the telling off was coming.
“I know Jo I’m sorry.”
She gives me a big hug and a kiss and I stay there for a minute. Letting the tingles stop from my head, Jo’s magic flows through the rest of me checking for damage.
“Well what in the flying f**k was their deal!” Layla’s arms go up in the air as she gestures to the sky like it has the answers. She often does this, talks to the sky like the Earth goddess is listening.
“ Yea we need to know what’s going on with them and exactly what, they were looking for!” I say to the girls.
Dawn tilts her head like she’s listening, “We need to know if they were searching for us in particular. Or witches in general, that’s the question we need to get answered.”
We all look at Dawn then, I’m still on the floor of the alley way we are in. Jo gets up and gives me a hand. Hoisting me up from the floor. I brush my hands on my legs getting the mess off them.
“Right, Layla can you call Seth and see what he thinks?” She nods at me in confirmation.
“One of them was a Mage right?” Eloise asks and we all agree he was, “Should we ask someone in the coven, you know other than our parents?”
“But who though?” Jo asks while she’s moving to the end of the alley now, we are on the opposite side of the high street. Thankfully the end of the alley opens up to a car park that’s behind the high street. So we can slip away easily enough. Or I hope so anyway, I don’t want to encounter those two again today! Preferably ever.
“let’s get to one of ours and stay together tonight. We need to get some distance between us. Staying here to long is asking for trouble.”
As they all agree, we instantly fell into step of the pentagram and followed our training to get home.
It meant I was at front to scope round corners, but during training we had found that Layla was actually far better at this than me! She could see an entire road with half her eye poking round a corner I swear. I was awful anyway so Layla was now at my right, checking the coast was clear.
Dawn and Jo were at the back as they both manipulated their elements, should we get attacked from behind. Eloise was more in the middle left trying to contain all of our scents etc that are on the wind.
We move with a little breeze going round in a circle around us, it’s the easiest way to contain things such as scent when your on the move. It had taken Eloise months to learn this, as it took so much concentration. This was why Eloise was more in the middle of us.
Layla moves her hand forward signalling we can move and as she pulls out into the car park that no longer has a roof or buildings to hide behind, we all hold our breath. Waiting, making sure no one is on the roofs etc and it is all clear.
Then we all leave the walls darkness and follow Layla’s lead. She’s nearly half way across now. I look up the car park and I see a couple of wolves at the top. They are bouncers for something that happens in one of the ‘cafés’ up town. They guard the back every second of everyday. Always two of them.
I shake my head getting back to the mission at hand.
“Where are we going girls?” I ask
Eloise answers me and sends the reply along her wind that is circling. This is really cool she can do this, it means we have some form of contact between us at all times.
“Go to mine.” The wind whispers.
Layla makes a left half way and starts to travel down the road that leads into the car park, she reaches buildings again.
We’re close behind her and thankfully we didn’t see any Vamps or crazy Mages on our way!
It still took us ages, having to make sure they weren’t lurking to kidnap us round every corner took some time. Tedious and slow going, but the close call tonight had me remembering we were very small fish in a massive pond! As we were considered to be so powerful, when our powers properly materialise that is. I sometime forget that in reality we aren’t. We are five girls barely out of school and not even started the Academy yet. We may be the strongest coven in years when we are older. But we’re just teens now!
Finally, we get to Eloise’s front door and we scramble inside, nearly falling over each other and landing in a relived heap on the floor.
Collete Eloise’s mum opens the kitchen door ahead of us and points to the kitchen table!
We file inside the kitchen, Eloise is first and she gasped. I try to peer over to see what has her so worried.
I shouldn’t of been so quick, when i enter the kitchen.
The Mage and the Vampire are sat at the table!
