First impressions aren't everything.

First impressions aren't everything. We stood there with our mouths hung open and worried looks from them to Collete. Collete looked mad! “Girls do you know who these men are?” Collete asks and we all shake our heads. “These men, have travelled from the academy to see you. To test that you have what it takes to join.” She stairs at each one of us until we drop our eyes. Sometimes I swear Collete is part Werewolf! “But! They!” Eloise’s hands go out gesturing the men sat at the table. Who are wearing no nonsense expressions. “They did what Eloise?” Collete, glares at her daughter. The gulp Eloise takes sounds like it’s on loud speaker! The Vamp suddenly stands up, “Girls we were hoping in the chance to surprise you. But we were met with hostile behaviour. This will not be acceptable in our Academy and should you wish to attend your behaviour will have to change.” He nods at the Mage who stands up next to him. I stare at the Mage, I’m still not feeling any good magic come from him! Can Collete not, see? He’s not a white Witch! Layla stands on my foot, just as I take a breath to speak. Glancing at her she very subtlety shakes her head. The start to walk out from their seats at the table and they pass us towards the kitchen door. The Vamp stinks still, but the Mage if your close to him his magic seems to be blue not grey. He’s using a spell! To make other Witches think he’s a white Witch. As he gets to me, he stops. “We’ll be seeing you soon Kasy Ravenswood, make sure your more welcoming next time!” He sneers at me. Ugh it makes me shudder, what a total creep. We watch them leave and as soon as the door closes its like an elastic band has snapped, the pressure in the house seems to disappear. “Whoa that was close!” Dawn says. “Not close enough girls, you Brought shame to us all! All of your parents are waiting at home. You can all head home now!” Collete is stern with us as a group, but she is usually the most understanding too. I dread what my parents are going to say! “Yes Collete.” We all say and start to file out the opposite way we came in, with our tails between our legs. We always walk the same way home, so none of us walk alone that far. Jo and Dawn live 2 doors away from each other so, when we get to the monument in Glastonbury high-street again, they go left. Waving a solemn goodbye, me and Layla head up the high-street. “Did you see the Mages magic?” I ask her. She shakes her head, “Kasy this is our future! His magic looked fine when he was in the kitchen. It was blue not grey!” She sounds exasperated with me, like it’s all my fault. “I know what I saw Layla, I’m not five!” We carry on walking in silence, we head left at the top of town and walk along, I’m first to be at home and Layla is then just down the road on the left too. “See you tomorrow kasy.” Layla half waves at me and carries on down the road. Her feet dragging, just like she doesn’t want to go home as much as me. I look up at my house dreading going inside, I can see my parents waiting for me behind closed curtains in the living room. I drag my feet too, not wanting to get told off. As I appear on the front path mum comes and opens the door. Her scowl has me diverting her gaze already and I’m not even close yet. That woman could burn holes into people’s hearts with her scowl if she wanted too. Dad comes up behind her putting a hand on her shoulder and leading her back inside, he looks at me over his shoulder and winks. Phew at least dad isn’t angry! Someone is on my side tonight! I follow them inside and sit on the couch, I look up at mum and dad, they are like the girls parents the spirit house coven leaders. They are strong and respected in our community, far to respected to have their daughter bringing shame to them. “Look before you too condemn me to a week of grounding, that Mage burnt my hair off!” I exclaimed wildly. My father looks at my mother then raising his eyebrow in question. My mum seems to deflate, she waves my father on and goes to sit down with her head in her hand. Like she has a massive migraine and I’m the cause of it. “What’s going on?” I ask looking between them. “Firstly Kasy, his name is Jonah.” Dad comes to sit next to me. “You need to know a few things, you all do. We’ve decided that you all need to know some history as Jonah is at the academy.” He takes a deep breath and carries on. “Jonah’s parents were once part of the spirit household and no not related to us, before you even ask.” “What’s his deal then!” “Jonah’s parents were killed by demons, when he had not long been born. They had re-joined the coven at a time when a very dangerous Demon was trying to come to Earth. Around the time you were all being born, knowing the covens were lacking a lot of the Witches from the main families due to this he struck us all then. Our parents fought bravely and managed to survive. They all came together and contained Bavlon for another 20 years at least. But some lost their lives, it is the way of war.” Dad looked at me then, he was upset. “You were friends?” I ask them and dad nods. “Jonah’s grandparents and parents, lost their lives. He was then taken in by the Academy’s residential Vampire. He teaches you all how to fight against Vamps. We had no choice in the matter, our parents refused to have him or to let us adopt him.” He shrugged. “So, Jonah has grown up hating us all and everything we stand for. Especially you girls who got to grow up with happy parents, when his were killed because we were all hidden away.” My dad looked at mum, she just shook her head. “I told them no good would come of neglecting one of their own.” My mother’s input has me staring at her. She looks me in the eyes and she seems sad. Like I’ve suddenly got cancer or something! “What am I missing? OK he hates you lot! What do I have to do with it? I was just being born!” “He is at the Academy still as you can see; his hatred hasn’t eased towards you girls. It will hinder your future or he will rather. It’s not clear to the readers and psychics yet. Which way he will go.” I’m even more confused now. “OK so he hates us, fine. I’ll just show him there’s nothing to hate. First impressions aren't everything!” My mother looks at me lovingly. “If only it were that simple love, his path has been set to darkness since the act 18 years ago. We can only hope he doesn’t join with the demons and try to bring back Bavlon.” “Jonah’s going to bring the Demon back to try to kill us all isn’t he? How is he still at the Academy!” I shout at them.
