I was right the food was absolutely delicious.
I’d eaten so much I was in a food coma! We’d had steak, feta and spinach filo pie, chocolate pudding and sticky toffee pudding!
We all crawl up the stairs after eating so much. We had the hole cafeteria glancing at us and pretending, they weren’t staring when we looked at them back. They did this the hole time we were there; it didn’t put us off our food though. Nothing ever does.
We collapse on the massive sofas and Dawn puts the TV on. The others busy themselves going through the kitchen and looking at each others rooms. I’ve still got a load of unpacking to do, I’ve definitely got to get up and do that as soon as I’ve digested some of my dinner at least.
“What’s up with the Mage?” Dawn asks me as we snuggle under some blankets flicking through the channels looking for a film to ease our coma like states.
“I don’t know, when he was up here, I caught him looking in. Honestly Dawn the pain in his eyes was to much for me to bare”
She looks puzzled at this recollection. “Pain? Not anger?”
I nod at her “Yep pain, a raw soul-destroying pain mate. It was hard to witness and its definitely made me see him in a different light.”
“Do you think it’s because of how he was brought up? Or that he thinks he should have been up here in these rooms?”
“That’s my only guess, because we were being born his parents left him to go and fight in the last demon war. There weren’t enough witches with all our mum’s and dad’s absent, due to being heavily pregnant and we had to be protected too so our dad’s were out of the fight too. He lost everything because of us.”
“No Kasy that’s not true, his parents did a brave thing. The same thing all of our parents would have done if the roles were reversed. Heck our parents have gone against more demons than we can count!”
“Yeah, your right there, I know they died and I know we are here now. But even if they didn’t die, he would still be in the normal bunk rooms, even if my parents did adopt him.” I whispered to Dawn so the others didn’t over hear too much.
“So why did he look like that then? And why is he getting weird and possessive over you? I assumed he hated you, definitely hasn’t done anything to make us think otherwise. Apart from tonight! Maybe he’s a bit unhinged?”
I think about that for a minute “But he doesn’t seem crazy?”
“No, he doesn’t and to be honest I don’t know if that’s worse.”
“At least if he was crazy, we would have a reason for his bizarre behaviour. He was so close when he said about me thinking Dean was hot!”
“Exactly Kasy that’s what I’m on about, how has he gone from hating you to getting a snot on, when you make a comment about another boy being hot!”
“I have no idea, but he gave me a chill when he was so close. It was like he followed the chills going over my shoulder! It was an intense moment .... from someone who hates me. I’m so confused.”
I look at Dawn and shrug, I don’t know what to do. Whether I should try to get him to like me. That was the aim firstly, but then he was so mean and I’d just given up and accepted that he hated me. I was more on the path to winding him up and giving him sly little digs rather than being nice to the guy!
“Be careful Kasy, I don’t like it one bit. I don’t know why but its not sitting right with me.” Dawn looks at me sternly
“I will be, right I’m off to unpack and get some sleep. Night Dawn”
“Night night girls” I call out and a round of Night Kasy is called out from different areas of our penthouse.
We each have a bathroom in our rooms, so I set my shower on hot and jump in. Relishing in the hot water I let it relax me.
Once out and in pj’s I go to unpack my uniform for tomorrow.
I’m pleasantly surprised that we are not in pinafores! I’ve two pairs of trousers and two skirts, they are a little longer than I would usually wear, but they are tube skirts so I can always roll them up if more leg is required.
New shoes, ballet pumps in black.
Finally, the jumper and the school logo I’ve been wanting to see. It’s a pentagram with each elemental symbol on it and a magic wand going through the middle.
I made sure I had everything ready for the next day. I went over and sprang onto my new four poster bed and it is absolutely heaven. I sink into the mattress and the pillows are so fluffy and the curtains block out all the light if I close them around my bed. It’s perfect!
I snuggle down getting comfortable and finally relaxing, it’s not long before I drift off to sleep.
I’m woken by an alarm that’s not mine!
Opening the curtains I search for the disturbing noise, but there will be no throwing alarms across the room for me!
As it’s coming through the speakers in the wall. What the??? I hadn’t noticed that yesterday. I wonder what else this place can do I haven’t seen yet.
I stretch out enjoying the last moments of the lush warm bed and I have to physically heave myself up from the bed. Or I could so easily stay there all day.
I open my door to find Layla already pouring five mugs of coffee.
“How was your sleep?” I ask her
“Oh my goddess! If that bed got any comfier I’d hide out in it!” I laugh agreeing with her one hundred percent.
“If we close our curtains would the even find us?” Layla laughs at my thoughts.
Dawn, Jo and Eloise Come out of their rooms already in uniform.
“What! Bit keen their girls?” Layla remarks at them with a laugh.
We’re all in really good spirits today, you can feel the excitement coming off from us all.
Me and Layla grab our coffees and race to our rooms to get ready. 20 minutes later I walk out completely ready to go.
“Shall we?” I ask them. Everyone gets up and we flow downstairs into the cafeteria for breakfast.
It’s even better than dinner, there is everything and I mean everything. You can have a fried breakfast any way you want it, eggs anyway you want them. Croissants, cereal, muffins, waffles.
My mouth is watering it looks so delicious.
I opt for some eggs benedict and I go join the rest of the girls, as I reach the table I notice Dean the head boy has joined our table and he’s if I’m not mistaken, chatting Eloise up.
I go and take a seat just as he finishes asking Eloise if she would like a tour of the school. A faint blush covers her cheeks and I give her a thumbs up behind Dean’s back where he can’t see. Eloise says yes and they are going to meet after class before dinner.
I look around at the other students and then I keep looking around.
It’s only when my eyes meet with a dark brooding pair that I realise these were what I was looking for and that scares the heck outta me.
