We finally reached the top of the main castle, the east wing and west wing are in the towers either side of us. They are both for classes and the food court is downstairs.
We are on the top floor in the middle of the castle, Mrs Barnes opens the only door on this top floor. As it swings open we see a massive living room with a balcony. Eagerly entering we all look around at the top of the five doors that lead off from the living room.
Each room has one of our house symbols over the door, looking closer they are plaques etched with our elements. They look so cool and we instantly go to which house we are.
Dawn goes to Earth and her room looks pale green and light browns inside. With crushed velvet all around the room.
Eloise opens her door next, looking at her whirlwind symbol for ages , the mini tornado does look amazing etched into the wood.
“How old are these?” she asks.
“Since your grandmother’s days here Eloise” Mrs Leck replies.
“Whoa thats cool” Layla says as she sees Eloise’s room that is pale blue with painted clouds and fabric on the roof pinned and hanging down in places. Curtains on the four poster massive bed, that seem to float.
Layla goes next flinging open her door and the room is a deep red and burnt orange, the bed is covered in plush fabric that looks like velvet.
Wow they really did our rooms out!
“These rooms have been like this since our parents then?” I ask Mrs Barnes.
She nods in agreement,
“This is the only time that we have a hole coven starting at the same time. Previously we would have one come a year and then maybe two the next and so on. But this is really something having you all start together, its all anyone can talk about! The 5 original families coming back to the Academy finally.”
She looks at me and winks then. I laugh and shake my head.
Oh goddess no lying low for us then!
I watch Jo open her room to blues and soft satin that flows like water.
Finally!! I get to open mine. Looking at my element the symbol for spirit, it looks a lot like Eloise’s air symbol but its a soul instead.
I look into the room and its a soft purple my magic colour too.
I have a deep reddish purple colour curtains, pillows and throws. I have a big vanity table and window seat. I race in and look out the window, I can see over a massive lake at the back of the castle and it looks amazing!
Some students are doing water sports on the lake, I can’t wait to do some! “Girl’s come see!” I yell at them. I hear them running to me.
“Whoa”
“Wkd”
“Mrs Barnes, can we have a go?”
They all fight for a better look, kneeling on the window seat.
Mrs Leck is laughing at our excitement.
“That’s only the first surprises girls, wait till you see the pool and the sauna!” We turn to her with wide eyes.
“A SAUNA!” we all exclaim.
The girls filter out to their own rooms and the front door opens to the driver of the mini bus, who has all our luggage.
“We will let you girls start to unpack for a while. We will see you downstairs for dinner at 6pm, you all remember where the food hall is?” Mrs Barnes asks us.
“Yes Mrs Barnes”
I look over the shoulder of the mini bus driver and I see the Mage; his face looks like he smelt something really bad. Well, he could have been adopted by my parents and had all of this before me! But whoever made the choice made the wrong one obviously. He meets my eyes then, there is suddenly so much pain in his eyes. It’s the first real emotion I have seen on his face other than hate. He catches me off guard with his open emotion and I flinch. He watches me flinch away from his pain filled eyes and gives me a final look before walking down the hallway.
“If I didn’t know better, I would say the young Mage has a crush on you kasy” Layla whispers in my ear.
I groan out loud. “Thank the goddess that’s not true” I shudder for added effect and Layla laughs.
We all go and get our luggage, waving a final goodbye to the teachers we each get to unpacking our lives for the next term at least. I do my uniform then sit on my vanity table and start with my make up and hair products. Some I hide in the cupboards knowing the sneaky fingers of my friends will come and pinch some if they see them. If they have to last a hole term then no one else is using them!
I look out the window, thinking how crazy it is that we are here. In the penthouse no less and its been waiting for us. What Mrs Barnes said about the hole school talking about us has me a little nervous if I’m honest with myself.
My mind goes to Jonah and that awful look in his eyes, today I’ve not only realised that he’s actually our age. But that whatever happened to lead him to hate me, has come from a deep-rooted pain. I spend the next thirty minutes going through all the possibilities of what that pain filled look in his eyes could be from Is it his parents?
How he was brought up?
That he missed out on all of this?
Or a mix of them all, he wouldn’t of been in one of these rooms if his parents had been alive. As he’s not from an original five family, the only way he would of is if he had been adopted by my parents. But then maybe they wouldn’t let him be here either!
When Eloise knocks on my door, I’ve spent entirely too much time on wondering about the Mage and his pain. Ugh I give my head a shake, why do I even care? Its not like he’s nice to me, I mean the guy hates me!
“Kasy are you ready? We’ve got to go for dinner” Eloise’s voice drifts through my door.
“Yea course”
I get up, check my clothes and leave. We didn’t need to wear uniform for dinner. But for breakfast and lunch we did as we had classes. I hadn’t looked at the uniform yet, hoping we didn’t have pinafores from the 60s!
I meet the girls by the front door. I hadn’t even noticed that we had a kitchen, but the girls had. They had made coffee from a machine too! Ohhh I like it here.
We exit our rooms and leave the hallway down the spiral stairs. Thankfully they aren’t the small Spiral type but wide and large stairs. I don’t like confined spaces and I really hate heights! Being able to see how high your going on steps is one of my absolute hated things.
We enter the entrance hall from the stair well, the food hall is easy to find. You just follow your nose, as we enter the hall through massive doors. The first thing I notice is the circle tables dotted all around the hall. There is like a normal cafeteria down one wall the kitchen goes into a different room and the kids are lining up with trays to get their food. What is completely different is the food! It looks, smells and no doubt tastes delicious!
I line up next to the rest of the students, taking the lead. The girls file in behind me, grabbing trays and cutlery. They pass me some down our little line and I pass up the cups and glasses I’m next too. We make ourselves at home wherever we go we’re not worried and we are so used to working as a team now that it just comes naturally. People give us weird looks sometimes but we don’t care. That’s what coven sisters is all about.
Slowly we start to notice the room has gone quiet, Dawn notices first and elbows me nodding at the dinner ladies. Who have paused in their serving and the students in front of then are wondering what they are looking at.
Eloise turns around and winces, she elbows Dawn and hisses something at her that I can’t make out. But then Dawn turns and goes completely still.
Wondering what the hell is going on I turn to see what’s up and I realise what it is. Everyone is staring at us! They weren’t joking when they said the hole school was talking about us!
As the hole school is staring at us with their mouths hung open. Then a boy stands up, he’s tall dark and absolutely handsome.
“Fitty twelve o’clock!”
“Damn now he’s hotter than Layla’s fire!”
As I say this the boy starts to speak so thankfully no one hears me.
“Everyone can we all give the five original families latest coven sisters a massive Glastonbury Academy welcome!”
Cheers go up from all the students. The boy tells them to be quiet waving his hands.
“You will all get to meet them in classes tomorrow, so please let’s not crowd them!” This gets a laugh from the other students.
“Girls I’m Dean and head boy, any questions please just come and find me.” He bows then with a flourish and jumps down.
Suddenly they all go back to normal and we all take a deep breath of relief.
“Hotter than Layla’s fire, is he?” A voice angrily whispers at me!
I hadn’t noticed that Jonah had snuck in line ahead of me, but as soon as he spoke, I realised my mistake. I’d been to concentrated on the boy Dean I hadn’t realised he had slipped in next to me.
A chill goes over my shoulder again and he watches the Goosebumps as they crawl across my flesh. I turn quickly catching him off guard and he had to move fast, to stop me being inches from his face. We would of been literally kissing if he had stayed were he was!
He turns his back to me, gathers his food and leaves to go sit down.
I don’t watch where he goes, but Dawn does. I feel her tense next to me.
“I swear he was jealous then!” She tells me.
“Ugh” another shudder.
At this rate I’ll be a shaking mess soon.
