The firefighter seizes the door handle, yanking is sharply. The door swings wide as he takes a step back, eyeing me with a blank expression. ‘Out,’ he orders sharply. I stare at him in shock, caught in the heavy, stern glare of the man standing over me. ‘I said out Eli,’ he demands again, his voice taking a distinctive edge of warning, ‘don’t make me say it a third time.’ I scramble out of my seat, my movements clumsy as I try to comply.
