The firefighter seizes the door handle, yanking is sharply. The door swings wide as he takes a step back, eyeing me with a blank expression.
‘Out,’ he orders sharply.
I stare at him in shock, caught in the heavy, stern glare of the man standing over me.
‘I said out Eli,’ he demands again, his voice taking a distinctive edge of warning, ‘don’t make me say it a third time.’
I scramble out of my seat, my movements clumsy as I try to comply. I straighten up just as Ryker reaches out and snatches the keys from my hand. He leans into my mother’s car, rolling up the driver’s side window, slamming the door and locking it with a definitive click, before pocketing my mother’s keys.
‘Let’s go’ he growls, pointing behind me, my shoulders tensing before I slowly start to turn around.
