46: Waking Up

Angel’s POV: My mind slips as my body loses the will to keep fighting. I’m sinking, being held down by the silver net. I cannot get up for more air. There is no choice but to give up. I’m heavy, and I can barely feel my body move. “Jump,” my wolf shouts, clearer than she’s been in weeks. It’s enough for my adrenaline to set in one last time. The river drags my feet along the bottom. I might resurface again with one good frog jump. With another shout from my wolf, I gather all the energy left to leap for my life. I kick out as well as I can. My head breaches the surface, and I gulp in the air I can get. My lungs burn from the effort. The need to cough is strong, and I no longer want to hold my breath. Ignoring the sensations in my lungs, I go under again. This time, I don’t let my panic
