Dr. Romero led me to the room that Brooke was in, and I hesitated at the door because now that I was here it felt scary and real. I heard the reassuring and constant beep-beep-beep of a heart monitor, and the noises of other machines I had no idea about working. I felt like my blood was running cold, and my hands were clammy and shaky.
