Zie Lao received his final instructions in silence and signalled the trucks to pull out. Since helping the Austrian twins with the destruction of the holding compound, he’d been on a high. He was proud to be part of this great venture despite Zheng’s demise. He was annoyed at been unable to finish off Zichu Ling but Jack Tresanton would have to do. The best of the original compound’s followers were with him, the rest little more than naive kids and were disposable fodder. His close friendship with Else at ZTW had alerted him to the switch in power and, like her, he was a survivor, switching sides effortlessly to oversee the movement of the components for Project Contagion to the Chinese border.
