Midnight ring

2095 Words
Jazmine’s pov Chelsea and I had made up and were busting our asses out because the boys, and a bunch of locals, always came to the diner after a game. They lost by a point and were a bit down but Judy's delicious food was enough to have them laughing and ordering more food, which meant more work for us. I was dead tired by the time we closed up and ready to pass out; and I would have if it wasn't for the fact that I still had to grab my things for my weekend with Chelsea. … “Ooooh we're going to have so much fun!” Chelsea squealed as we got to her house. “You mean you're going to have a lot of fun at the party while I look after your house” I rolled my eyes as I grabbed my stuff from the back seat and made my way to the front door. “It'll only be tomorrow night, and I can skip the party if you want” Chelsea said, opening the door. “No, go have fun, you know I love tormenting you when you're hungover. It's almost as fun as the movie marathon I'm going to have without you” I said, the idea of not having to share a TV exciting. I get to catch up on all my favourite shows and watch the movies I've been dying to watch. “Have I ever told you how much I hate you” she said, closing the door behind her. “Yes, many, many times” I smiled, her groan making me giggle. “You're a terrible friend” she said, taking my bag to throw it on the floor as we made our way to kitchen to heat up our food. “But you love me anyway” I smiled cheekily, to which she just rolled her eyes and laughed. … We hadn't planned on watching TV and sleeping late but we did, and when the alarm clock went off, I almost fell off the bed. “Dear God, why?!!” I whine, my eyes heavy with sleep and barely conscious. “Money, that's why” Chelsea groaned as she slowly sat up, “come on turd, we got work” she said stretching her arms out. “Urg, I need ten more hours of sleep” I groaned, pulling the covers over my face. “Not on my watch” she said, grabbing the covers to pull but I was prepared and held on tightly. “Jazmine!” She pulled a little harder but I wouldn't budge, I knew Chelsea woke up a lot earlier than I did and I was planning on getting a few more minutes of sleep while she made herself pretty. I felt her shift on the bed and was relieved she'd given up and loosened my grip on the covers. I almost jump out of bed when I felt the covers get tugged out of my not so firm grip, followed by a squeal and a loud thud. I quickly sat up and looked around but couldn't see her and wondered if she'd teleported out of the room until her groan of pain made me turn my eyes to the floor on her side of the bed. I burst out laughing while she slowly tried to get up, tripping on the covers and landing on her ass again. I laughed harder and rolled the other way, forgetting how close I was to the edge of the bed. My laughter quickly turned in a scream, followed by a groan of pain as I landed hard on my side. Chelsea, delighted as ever at my misfortune, burst into fits of laughter, making me giggle at my instant karma. We got silence for a moment and I wondered if I couldn't will myself back to sleep, even if it was for a few minutes but lady luck was not on my side. “Come on buddy, gotta get ready for work” Chelsea said, making me wish I'd declined her offer to spend the weekend together. We showered and got ready for work, with enough time to eat breakfast! I can't remember the last time I sat down to eat breakfast. Maybe Chelsea's right about my crappy time management, but I'll never tell her that. … The morning rush was… well, the morning rush, only this time, everyone seemed to be excited about the new Alpha coming to town. I tried to listen in on their conversations while I went around serving them and it seemed like whoever was coming was some kind of royalty, or big shot or whatever. The thought of an Alpha that powerful was nerve wrecking and I wondered what would happen to our town. What if he goes rampaging on a full moon? What if he's merciless and subjects all of us to slavery? The thoughts made my blood run cold, sending shivers down my spine; but there was a distant flutter in my stomach that I didn't understand, maybe it was just nerves. “Oh my God Jazmine! You won't believe who's coming! The Alpha Cody was talking about, is actually theeee Lycan Prince Ezra Knight!” Chelsea whisper yelled into my ear, making me wince, did she have to do that? That name though, hearing her say it made my chest flutter nervously and I couldn't even explain why. Was it fear? Had to be… “Christ Chelsea, are you trying to leave me deaf” I whined, raising a brow at her. “Sorry, I'm just so excited to finally meet him” she said, putting her hands on her chest with a dreamy look in her eyes that left me feeling jealous. Whoa Jazmine… jealous? Why would I be jealous? Of Chelsea of all people?! Admiring a beast at that?! “Rumour has it, he doesn't have a mate, she died in some accident or something” Chelsea continued, causing an uncomfortable feeling to blossom within my heart. I gulped, trying to swallow my ridiculous little feelings but it was no help. Chelsea kept going on and on about how dreamy he was. How strong and powerful of an Alpha he was. I don't know what was going on with me but I felt anger build up with every word she spoke and I just couldn't take it anymore. “Are you hoping he chooses you to be his mate?!” The outburst bubbled out of me, shocking not only my best friend but myself as well. Where did that even come from? “Uh… Jazmine I'm just telling you about him” she said, looking as confused as ever and I just blinked, realising I may have overreacted and she wasn't fantasizing about him. And why would I be so uncomfortable about it?? “Jealous” I thought to myself but would never in a million years admit it, especially because I had no idea where all of these strange feelings were coming from. “Sorry, I'm sorry.. I just.. don't want to know about another monster coming to town, to do, whatever. Especially a Lycan” I stuttered a little, trying to stear the conversation in a different direction, though it left me feeling a little guilty for thinking the Lycan Prince was a beast. “Urg, I'm sorry, I'm so stupid. Of course you don't want to hear about some dumb Alpha coming to town. I'm so insensitive” Chelsea pulled me into a hug and held on tight, making me sigh in relief. Dodged that bullet. “Urg, Judy wants you to help her in the kitchen” Kristen's snarky voice made us pull apart, Chelsea rolling her eyes as Kristen turned and walked away. “I really ha… don't like that girl” I said, watching her retreating back as she swayed her non-existant hips dramatically. “Dido on that” Chelsea said as Kristen rounded the corner. “Let's not keep Judy waiting” I said, following after Kristen with Chelsea hot on my heels. Judy needed help packing some food she'd just made to take to the pack house, seemed the prince would be arriving sooner than anyone anticipated. And boy was my stomach flipping upside down and down side… however the saying goes. … “Okay, how's this look?” Chelsea asked twirling around in front of the full body mirror that stood on the left side of the room facing the bed I was sitting on. “Same as the last one, skimpy and sexy” I said, already fed up with the fashion show. “Perfect” she smiled, looking at herself some more. A text made her phone ping and she rushed to check it out, making her smile. “Okay, I gotta go, Wren's here” she said, making my heart skip a beat. “Chelsea wait!” I jumped from the bed, scaring her a bit. “What's wrong?” She asked, looking a little scared and worried. “I.. I just.. I” I lost my words, not even sure what I wanted to say. “Jazmine, what's the matter?” She asked, tilting her head to the side, the questions she didn't want to ask swimming in her eyes. “Don't go” I chocked, my voice barely above a whisper but the look she gave me told she heard. A short silence took hold of the room as she pinched the bridge of her nose, while nerves wrecked through my sanity. “Wren's waiting” she said and began walking out, but my heart just couldn't let me watch her go. I couldn't explain it, I didn't even know why I was like this but there was something about tonight that just made my blood run cold. “Chelsea wait!” I ran after her, my voice making her stop and sharply turn towards me. “What Jazmine?! What?!” She yelled, angrier than I'd ever seen her and it made me step back in shock. “I just don't think going out is a good idea” I said, my voice going lower than I thought possible. “This again” she laughed sarcastically, turning towards the stairs. “You don't understand Jazmine, and you probably never will, so just let it go, okay?” She said, walking down the stairs without even waiting for a response. It wasn't even about how I felt about werewolves, this wasn't about me; but how do I even begin to explain this? She walked out the door and the dreadful feeling I got the night my mother died made me run after her. I couldn't let her go. I pulled the door open just in time to watch the car speed away, fear of something I couldn't even figure out making my body tremble. “What am I going to do?” I whispered to myself as the car disappeared around a bend. “God please, protect her. I don't know what this is, but please, keep her safe” I said a short prayer before reluctantly going back inside. … I'd sworn to stay awake until she returned but the scare I got from the sound of my phone ringing made me realise I'd been asleep. “Hello?” I groaned into the phone, not even checking to see who was calling. “Jazzy Jazzyyyyyy” Chelsea's slurred from the other side, her voice washing away all the slumber from my mind. “Chelsea! Oh my God! Are you okay?!” I asked, a little frantic and she just giggled drunkenly, the sound calming my nerves a bit. “I'm fiiiiiiiiiine Jazzy” she giggled some more, making me chuckle. “I'm glad, you coming home soon?” I asked, my sleep slowly returning. “Yes! Wen had to go, pick me up Jazzy” she slurred some more, making me frown. Wren has never left Chelsea at a party before, she always made sure Chelsea made it home. It's why she picked her up everytime, so she could bring her back. “Where are you?” I asked, already headed down the stairs, the dread I'd been feeling earlier returning. “In the river woods” she said, making me roll my eyes as I rushed to the garage. “I'm on my way, don't go anywhere okay?” I said as I got into her car and drove to the one place werewolves always threw parties.
